Looking for a solution for drinking water

currently it is just my wife and I and we drink a lot of water. We go through 80-100 of the 16.9oz waters/week. They're cheap so the cost isn't a huge deal but I'd like to find a better solution. My research is starting here because I imagine there are quite a few folks who have been in this spot.

I just drink from the faucet.

Either drink from the faucet or get a fridge with the filtered water dispenser on it.

get a RO/DI unit. I have a big one for my saltwater fish tank in my office and also use it to fill the big kentwood bottles here at work and everyone likes the RO/DI water much better than the Kentwood delivered water. Those big filters will last for a few years if you're only using the water for drinking water.
$189
you can even connect a line to this to your icemaker for very pure ice as well as chilled water from your fridge door.

Whats wrong with your tap water?

Where are you located? Are you a Costco member? If so sign up with Kentwood through Costco and they provide a water dispenser like in an office or gym with the jugs for like $2 a month. The jugs are like $5 each and they come every two weeks to replace. Nice to also have very hot water on demand for tea, coffee etc.

I bought an under sink single cartridge filter system and it’s been great. I ended up buying a second system for our back kitchen and also routed the ice maker water through it to get filtered water ice. I change the filters every 6 months.

Walk to refrigerator with empty glass
Push glass to cold water dispensary
Enjoy
Repeat as required
Sometimes I get a little wild and add ice

Would that system work well down at the hunting camp?

if you want clean water filtration can get expensive. It is great you are trying to avoid the chemicals that kill off the good bacteria in your gut.
Do you want something connected to a water line just for drinking, stand alone or maybe whole house?

get a filter for your fridge or tap lack others have said or, we have a Berkey Filter which gives you super clean and good tasting water and even can filter pond water into drinking water in case of the apocalypse. It sits on top of the counter and takes up space and you have to add tap water to it everyday. Its a bit of a PITA but my wife loves it.

quote:it's made for drinking water, not whole home water. It will do 75 gallons per day. A RO/DI system like that puts out the purest water imaginable. Better even than Distilled water. The Total dissolved solids begin at .000 and slowly come up with usage. I have a cheap little TDS meter I paid like $7 for that tests the water every once in a while. You can also get an inline TDS meter if you want to monitor the water output.

berkeys are great and very useful. Should you lose water, you can just filter rain water, river water, etc. to keep on trucking. It is affordable on a per gallon cost, too.
There are some great $50 inline filters that handled all the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agriculture runoff too. These work great for refrigerators or single faucet applications.
For whole home solutions, 3-stage custom designed filtration systems are wonderful. They can be pricey though as they can hit $5-6k in cost.

If you want 0 TDS water, Zero water filtration products are great. They are typically things like filtering water pitchers. They filter to 0 TDS but the filters are kind of pricey and only last around 30 days for anyone who drinks a lot of water.

What's wrong with tap water?
Posted on 10/2/19 at 10:57 am to SSpaniel
ha I grew up on tap water and there is probably nothing wrong with it but we live on the water and the neighborhood is relatively old. Occasionally there will be a slight tint to the water and I just don't totally trust it. Also, we have a baby coming in the next few weeks so I figure it would be good to have for cleaning and disinfecting the shiteater's stuff.
