HVAC tech here

Cost can vary due to what brand equipment you go with and how much competition is going on in your area in the hvac business. For single speed equipment you are probably going to be around $10k. Now you can get higher seer two speed or variable speed equipment that will run you more, but the government is offering incentives such as tax credits up to $2k. I work for a trane dealer. Today starts a promotion that trane is offering. If you buy a 17 seer or above you get a 10 year parts and labor warrant and a $500 rebate from trane. Not a bad deal and the units are more efficient. Personally I like the single speed. Less to go wrong. You’ll never be waiting days or weeks for parts with a single speed. Personally I like a trane as well. I’ve installed and serviced them all. I go on a lot less calls for trane systems than any other brand. Hope this helps.

Two stage

Love my two stage. Rarely runs on high but nice to have when cooking on those hot summer afternoons.

I paid right at 10k for a good trane unit but that was 3 years ago. Probably more by now.

The government has really fked people with the regulations. They made affordable HVACs impossible.

In ‘21 and ‘22 I got to replace all 3 units on my house

2.5 ton and 2 4 ton. That was fun. They were Goodman and were complete shite. Just over 10yrs old. Never had a year with them that something didn’t break.

The new ones are Carrier. No issues at all.

need to know the SEER

This will impact the cost the most. The 19 SEER, variable 5 speed 5 ton unit I have has performed amazingly with huge monthly cost savings. It was expensive but reaping the benefits monthly.

There is law of diminishing return on high Seer rated units, do your homework before buying one.

I live in a 1200 sq ft house, and my HVAC just went out. For a 2 1/2 ton unit, they wanted 6 grand.

Was this for just the outside unit or indoor air handler, etc?
