I need to find a light bulb for our well house. We were told to use 100W 220V bulbs. I tried an infrared that blew. What can I use an alternate for a short period?

Why not a quartz halogen bulb. Many headlights use them and I had them in my man cave to light up my dart boards.

They got so hot you could tan under them and damned if you touched one of them as they would take the hide off your hands.

I swapped them out for LED bulbs and they are much cooler, but your problem is keeping the area warm and quartz halogens will do that.

I use a bathroom heat lamp bulb Home Depot that works just fine. Not sure why yours would fail unless voltage spikes from the pump motor are affecting it.

Sounds like your bulb wasn’t a 220v bulb.

Thanks. fellas.

lsujunkie, yeah the internet says that if the configuration is right a 110 or 120 could work. Guess the configuration wasn't right.

So is the socket 110 or 220?

You said you need a 220v bulb. If you put a 110v bulb in a 220v wired socket it's going to blow.

If the well house is fully enclosed, why not use a heater of some sort?

Yes, the socket is 220, and we thought we had the right bulb, and then tried a few others.

We could have put a heater in, but we had the light fixtures designed specifically for this purpose. It's a nice little water pump house, and usually held out, but a few years ago we had weather well below freezing for 72 hours straight. Rare occurrence, but it's tough to lose water for multiple days.

We'll just wait another day or so and buy the right ones, but they are hard to find.

Guys help me, maybe a little off topic!) For example, I am a very creative person and really want to put in your room something cool and bright, friends advised that it would be interesting to put neon lights or backlighting, but I do not know what to choose and whether it is not dangerous?

I have 2 dart boards set up in my man cave and for lighting I put up a track light strip about 6 ft. in front of the boards with 3 LED lights in small canisters directed on each board.

That gives off lots of light and it is directed at the wall the boards are on and offers subtle lighting in the rest of the area.

For something real subtle, you don't need 6 LED bulbs and can easily get away with less just for ambient light.

I also have some neon light sculptures that are really not bright at all with the colored tubes offering way less light than the plain white tubes.

Nothing dangerous about either option. However, if you use something like halogen lights, be aware that those bulbs get extremely hot.

Here's a link to Amazon for 220V heat lamp bulbs. Not cheap but meet your requirements.
