There are so many companies out there now. I don’t even know where to start. It seems the trend is going away from brick and mortar stores to direct to consumer. How do you pick one that’s best for you?

I’m a heavier guy 240, side sleeper, and I get hot at night. We have a Stearns and foster pillow top that’s on its last turn.

Help!!

In no order, I’m looking at:
Tuft and Needle
Casper
Purple
Layla
Winkbeds
Helix

ETA: I bought a Winkbeds last night. I got the original in soft. I'll try it for the 120 days. If I don't like it, I'll end it back. It's all manufactured and assembled in the USA

Helix Midnight Luxe was the runner up.

Please keep the conversation going for others.

I dont think the Casper holds up well to larger people. Probably not the best option.

If you’re in BR or reasonable driving distance.

Mattress Wholesale at Florida and Flannery.

So I’ve heard, but I’m worried about them being too hot.

Its a kick in the guts, but Tempurpedic is worth the money. of the ones you listed Tuft and Needle is the one I'm most familiar with as a good quality mattress

Researched reviews online and bought a Puffy (memory foam). Will sleep on it tonight for the first time.

We just bought one after extensive research. Read up on mattressunderground.com. It's overwhelming, but there's a lot of good info on there.

Bottom line is the big name makers are overpriced, the online mattresses(Purple, Nectar, Casper, etc.) are too new to really know the longevity, and it's best to find a local shop. We went with a local shop(Ensley Fairfield for any Bham folks) and love our mattress we bought from them. It was considerably cheaper than the TempurPedic and Sealy mattresses we liked at the big box mattress store.

Tempurpedic was definitely too hot for us. Sweaty city. None of the memory foam mattresses are firm enough for my crooked spine, either.

We looked at a TempurPedic that had some sort of temp regulating material in the top layer. Some type of gel I guess. Bed was super comfy and the wife and I laid on it for a good 30 minutes in the store and never got hot.

But the price tag was almost $6,000.

i'm 6'4", 242lbs. side sleeper also. We bought a Serta, hated it. Bought a Nectar (like a purple or casper), and it was great for the first month or so. After that, the memory foam started having craters in it and not bouncing back to the original firmness. We got rid of it and ordered a Saatva. Had it right at a year and it's awesome! We actually ordered it where my wifes side is like a 9-10 firmness and mine is like a 6-8 firmness. Can't recommend enough. Cost about 1,200 if i remember right

We have had a Casper and Leesa. Preferred the Leesa and for the price its probably hard to beat. We sleep great on it.

I'm almost three months in on a Sleep Number, replacing my Temperpedic. I opted for dual zone control (left/right). I couldn't be happier so far.
