The 24.8hp D1105 puts out about 53 ft/lb of torque @ 2200rpm and the Kawasaki 38.5hp EFI puts out 57 ft/lbs @ 3200rpms. The EFI is awesome on fuel for an engine that size. We've replaced them all with issues/failures (Kubota, Kawasaki, Vanguards) They all will break and most of the time it's customers lack of maintenance which will show up on the back side of engine life. IMO, The extra money for a diesel isn't worth it unless you have off road diesel on site.
Everyone has their reasons on diesel vs gas. More times than not the mower will wear out long before the engine IF the engine is quality like the Kawasaki FX or a Kubota diesel.
7 acres is nothing for a modern TRUE commercial ZTR with a quality engine. Too many companies now calling some of their low end mowers, commercial.

Quality of dealer and service they provide should be main concern over brand
Had commercial front deck JD diesel few years back, not much power, not very durable
Now have 60" Gravely diesel. Like it a lot, have had a few belt issues, very heavy duty and heavy overall. Great cut.
Now considering 72" Scag or Gravely gas. Talking to the lawn peeps around here they find the gas has more power, parts are easier to come by

I inherited a skag from my pop. Going on 20 years old. He did replace the motor a couple years ago but other than that it’s all original. I cut about 4 acres.

Thanks for all the insight everyone. I've decided to roll with the JD Z950M with the 27hp Kawasaki engine. Opted for the 72" deck to cut down my mowing time and minimize the hours I'll put on the engine.
Wanted the hydraulic push button deck but apparently the commercial JD mowers are hard to find right now. My dealer has one invoiced to them but it won't be in until June 1st.

That 7 Iron deck will be worth the wait.
I started my lawn business 1999 servicing mainly state and federal contracts and some businesses. By the time I sold it in 2015, it was quite a lucrative investment.
If I were starting that business today, it would be a bunch of Scag V-Ride IIs and 1-2 John Deere 950Ms for larger tracts.

I have a JD 997 diesel with 72” deck. Have had it for about 6 years and love it.
Only issue I have with owning a JD is the parts are fairly expensive.
Some people I know swear by the exmarks
