Sprayed the grass with the mixture and tried to get a good coating on it but I’m sure many areas only got a light coating. The yard is really crappy with more weeds than grass. What can I expect?

In a week or 2 you’ll see weeds that are dying and the weedy areas you likely missed - that’s why a follow up spray is often necessary in 2 or 3 weeks. Be aware a few weeds that are mature and fairly resistant to the herbicides that you sprayed may not be showing much sign of damage. Poa is a good example.

I sprayed weed free last Saturday at work and noticed effects by Tuesday or Wednesday. It worked a lot quicker than the Celsius I sprayed at home.

No sticker.

If only Poa, the Atrazine alone (with surfactant) is probably your best bet, but you can add the weed free zone if you have some other weeds you want to tackle at the same time. I sprayed some Poa, that I missed with last Fall’s pre-emergent, a week ago with the mixture and I noticed some yellowing of it today.

Hey craw, I’ve neglected my grass the last two years with a 2 year old running around the house. Wtf to I do now? Where do I even start? There’s some St. Aug under there somewhere.

Yikes. I had a few spots close to my house that may have been as bad or worse than that. Sprayed the WFZ/atrazine/sticker cocktail and here is what it’s looking like now.

I had to spray twice (2 weeks apart) to fully kill it. But it did the job.

ETA: My goal now is to fertilize throughout the year and try to get the grass to take over. Eventually that spot will probably be flower beds at some point, though.

Can I cut my grass now after spraying or should I wait another day or two?

Yep - use the winter weed cocktail on that, with a follow up spray in 2 or 3 weeks and it will take most, if not all, of those weeds out. Then later on in the summer (when temps are higher than 85) if you need some additional follow up sprays of herbicide for weeds that have “escaped” use methsulfuron methyl (MSM Turf) + surfactant. Cut the St Aug high, 3 to 3 1/2 inches, and fertilize the lawn around April 1. Here is the formula if you missed it in other threads.

When did you spray? I’d wait 2 days post spraying to cut.

CrawDude I consider you the resident authority on this subject.

I've sprayed my centipede yard with the winter weed cocktail fertilome, atrazine, surfactant. It was 2 saturdays ago. The yard was terrible beforehand, I mean terrible. More types of weeds than I'd ever care to try to identify.

I did not mow before spraying because you stated that some weeds would absorb through the leaves, not the roots. I still havent mowed so I can see what's not being killed by the treatment. A lot of the weeds are dead or dying but not all of them.

The grass is growing now and it looks like I have to spray the cocktail again.

What's the best way to finish this job?

I’d go ahead and cut the grass, but a little high 2, 2 1/2 or 3 inches, if you want to tidy it the lawn for appearances sake. Then tomorrow. or even later this afternoon, make your second spray. It will still have plenty of weed foliage for the herbicide to make good contact, and some weeds that grow close to the ground won’t be cut at all.

In fact I spot sprayed some weeds with the cocktail Friday a week ago, but I missed some clumps, I cut my centipede yesterday just to tidy up the yard, and I’ll spot spray the weeds I missed last week this afternoon when the temp get above 60 F.

I always appreciate those who give directions to the T, even a good pic of the cocktail ingredients. Many people give very broad, general advice that doesn't help much. Thank you and good job CrawDude

You’re the best. Do you recommend the cocktail in 1 or 2 gallons of water?

Don’t think of the water as a dilutant in this case, but rather a carrier. Your goal is apply the total amount of herbicide (8.6 fl oz of atrazine + 1 fl oz of weed free zone) over 1,000 sq ft - if you can effectively cover 1000 sq ft with 1 gal of solution then use that, if you empty your sprayer before covering 1000 sq ft, then up the quantity of water you use such as 2 gallons of water. You can use 1.5 gallons of water if you want if effectively covers a 1000 sq ft. .

We all have different sprayers, and different paces of walking when spraying. Personally, I find with my sprayer and my pace when walking while spraying, 2 gallons of water works better for me.

My advice is to go find the thread I made (I think it's on page 2 right now) where I asked for help. My yard was a mess, much like yours and I had no clue what I was doing. Craw, and a few others, put me on the right path. A month in, and my yard is looking way better, and I have a solid understanding of what I need to continue to do. The thread is updated with pics throughout as well. It's really helpful info.

I’m on my phone but that looks like bermuda. You can’t spray bermuda with atrazine if it’s already greened up.

Hopefully it is just a small picture

If you spray an atrazine/certainty combo you’ll get rid rid of winter weeds at a faster pace.

Mcpa/vanquish or Celsius or tripower would clean your lawn up fast.

UPDATE:

I sprayed yesterday and already today I saw LOTS of the weeds yellowing and even started to curl up a bit. I didn’t expect it to work that fast but I’m glad.
