Any of y’all have this? My wife is attempting to get a home renovation done and we have a long fur down stretching the length of our home she wants to get rid of. Any problems w/ duct in the crawl space on pier and beam home?

I would imagine the fur down he is referring to currently conceals the HVAC supply trunk. They want to remove it to open the space up.

^ correct. The fur down extends the length of our home and conceals the duct. Ideally we get rid of it and open that space up and duct would be in the crawl space.

My entire 1st floor ducts are in the crawl space - 1890s house. Never had any issues. Likely not the most energy efficient - but neither is a 130 year old house.

All of my downstairs ducts are in crawl space, but you can almost stand up in my “crawl space”

Our entire first floor has the ducts in the crawlspace. Not really an issue, but just know that unless you have sealed up your crawl space eventually humidity will cause the insulation to fail over time. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.

Is the HVAC air handler in the attic? If not where is it located?

Not common in S LA, but very routine to place HVAC ducts in a crawl space around the country. As weadjust stated you might need to locate your furnace/air handler in the crawl space as well, re-route your refrigerant line set, …. Could be a pretty expensive retrofit.

Hot air rises and cold air sinks.
Up north they distribute air via floor grilles because heating season is longer than cooling season. Down south it’s the reverse.
