I have common bermuda and am ordering a load of batture dirt, which is mostly sand. Have about 20k of yard and have some areas that hold a tad bit of water and are uneven. Plan on doing it at the end of April beginning of May.
Which type of fertilizers should I use before I lay down dirt?
Plan on sand leveling and aerating next year using masonry sand but want to level everything out before I do it.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’d avoid batture dirt (spillway sand, etc) because of the high weed seed content including the dreaded torpedo grass.

Dirt guys love it. It’s available and spreads easily but weed city

I can deal with the weeds. I plan on using a lot of pre emergents to help with that and have access to a large variety of chemicals. I have dealt with weeds my whole life, farming.

I was thinking the same thing. No way would I willingly add that type of dirt / sand to my yard when there's a VERY strong possibility of a torpedo grass infestation.

Dude, it's not worth it with the torpedo grass.

Fertilize and water heavy with 21-0-0, 33-0-0, or 46-0-0. Just hit it with straight nitrogen and it'll grow like crazy.

You can water as much as every day or every other day if it's totally covered by sand.

You cannot deal with torpedo grass. No pre em will work and once you get it you are fricked. Try sandyloam or mineral soil. Mineral soil will probably be harder to find but I can buy sandyloam 3 miles away from me for $55 a ton.

As easy as river silt but not as easy as mason sand.

Thanks ronk. Just spoke to someone to get me a load of some good spreadable sandy dirt. Told him no batture and what I wanted to do and he knew exactly what I needed but was out and will look around for me.
