I have a consistent issue when we get significant rain where the culvert under my driveway gets clogged/blocked with mud and the water diverts over my driveway. I dig it out everytime but the issues is getting worse and i'm hoping for a permanent solution.

Here is a picture of the drainage ditch. I'm standing on my driveway.

I dug a little of the very soft mud to show the top of the culvert at the bottom of the picture.

Up hill and where a lot of the water is coming from, the drainage ditch is minimal at best. Here are a few pictures.

In the distance of this picture, the wheelbarrow is sitting on my driveway.

Now, the good news is that the previous 2 pictures are taken in front of where my parents are building their house (right next door) and if the solution involves correcting something in front of their house, that will be no issue.

I guess the water is pulling dirt from in front of their house and draining down to my ditch and clogging the culvert? How can i fix that? Would gravel, larger rocks or rip rap there help any?

Any tips appreciated.

It seems that your neighbors don't have that problem because they have grass in their ditches.

Grow grass. Soil test and get it as healthy as you can maybe if you want to do it right.

In addition to growing grass and using erosion strips, looks like slope near your culvert could be better?

Any willingness to cut out driveway and make a better free flowing system? At least extend the culvert and perfect entry slope. Over time, that mud has jacked up slope.

You need river sand on top of that clay and then some grass. Clay can grow grass but it takes a while, I know and it sucks when it gets wet even with grass

I’d just aggressively seed, maybe a few plugs of robust grasses

Your parents need to use a silt fence badly. You also will want to dig out all that clay and reclaim the ditch from their front yard to your driveway. It’s been filled in and will only provide more problems down the road.

this sounds like a job for some machinery. i'll see if the guys doing dirt work and grading their yard will be willing to do it. they do have an excavator out there now.

might have to get the county to come out and do it due to utilities though.
