Help me propagate a maypop vine

I have a variegated shoot on a maypop vine that I am trying to propagate. What looked like bad leaves at first has turned into about 4ft of stable variegation pattern.
I've propagated these guys before but really want to get this one right. Never had more than about 50% success sticking them into potting soil. I've seen 50/50 perlite & peat recommended or just straight water. But not sure if one is better than the other.
There is an army of gulf frittilary caterpillars on the plant, so I need to do it ASAP. Will try to post pics as soon as I get it inside away from the caterpillars.
Edit: I've got about a dozen shoots in a 3:1 perlite to peat mix w/a plastic bag over it. Got about a dozen more that could be potted or put into water once I cut them

Should be fairly easy. Mine grow out of control. Like the size of cars. Started with a half dead stick I left in a pot that sat out in the blizzard a few years ago.

You have to pull up the pictures in a browser instead of on the app and then copy the link.
It will not work from the app now for some reason.

do you have a vine segment to the ground with the variegation? If so, follow it down and tease up the root it is growing from, clip off a root segment with your vine attached and replant that, you’ll need to cut back the vine but the root will resprout

The variegated section branches off from a main vine, then there's about 4 feet to where the main vine is rooted.

Look up the fig pop method for rooting cuttings. It’s a lot easier than rooting in an open container due to idiot-proof moisture control.

You could also try layering
Fill a pot with soil, if the pot is plastic snip a pair of notches in the top on opposite sides, and lay the Vine from notch to notch across the soil, making sure to include a leaf node, cover with more soil, put a brick on top. Keep it from drying out

I noticed this a couple days ago. It also now plays a popup ad when you upload something from app.
