I have a gas lantern similar to pictured below. How do yall prep these for a hurricane? I was thinking remove glass, turn off flame, and maybe secure the downrod from three directions...

ETA, my downrod is 24" so it's hanging a good bit.

Just turn the gas valves off. There should be one fir each latern and one somewhere in the attic to turn off gas to all of them, usually it's in the vicinity of the gas furnace connection.

If the glass is readily removable then go ahead but make sure you keep the pieces organized by each lantern.

Heard people remove the glass. Seems to me easier to replace glass. It’s just regular glass and shouldn’t cost much to replace.

I lost a whole lamp for Ida. Came off the mount. But the wind was rolling for Ida.

We have 2 that are similar, I just turn the gas off, get my impact gun and unscrew from ceiling. Disconnect the gas from the top. This will give me a chance to clean them as well.
