Pretty sure it's supposed to be inside the door jamb.
Is this right?

The door should open out on a bathroom.

yes its usually middle right under the door but with different height floors such as laminates its often done so the hall flooring stops even with the wall

That doesn't make sense. Thresholds can be leveled out. Please help me understand.

I have different height floors, wood to tile, and mines in the middle under the door.

Not sure what the floor height is on both the wood floor to the tile floor in the bathroom, but you can make your own threshold, or get one made to custom fit your application.
I did this in my house when transitioning from my heart pine old original flooring and stepping up in a couple rooms to underlayment and ceramic tile with a rise of just under 3/4".
It won't be perfectly level, but you can make it sloped to make the transition more comfortable if there is a height difference.
My transitions stop just under the door for a cleaner look.

Yeah, I don't see the point of why you're seeing both floors with the bathroom door closed.
That's about as ugly as the "Pants on the ground" look.

I've owned 3 houses and between those 3, there have been 7 bathrooms and not a single one of them opened to the outside.
They all opened in since most bathrooms are in hallways or adjacent to bedrooms. WHO opens a bathroom door to a hallway?????
ETA: OH, I get it, you still use an outhouse.....

Definitely. That looks like shite.

Yes. Looks terrible and there’s no reason for that except probably laziness.

Yes. With the door closed, you shouldn’t be able to see the bathroom floor from the hallway. The transition should be underneath the door when it’s closed.

It depends on who laid floor first, tile or wood, yes it should be on the other side of the door stop but if you want to “blame” someone, the mistake was made by either wood floor not being laid quite far enough into bathroom or the tile guy not stopping on the bathroom side of the doorstop, but based on how floors were laid the threshold is in the only place it could be

That’s a really, really bad job. Make him fix that shite asap.
