I'm looking at purchasing a property that has two GIANT live oaks on the property. As much as I'd love to keep them, they make building impossible so they will likely have to go. (or at least 1 will).

I got quotes to have them taken down along with some other things and it's $$$$. Question: Would a carpenter or one of those specialty furniture stores or something be willing to do it for free or pay me for the trunks b/c they want those slabs? They would be at least 3-4" slabs. Trying to see if I could get some money back.

No that won’t happen. Just keep the trees or don’t build.

Is this some sort of troll? Why would someone even consider buying property with the intent to destroy huge live oaks?

no it's not a troll. And because the property is useless with the live oaks on it.

No I'm not. It's a great property in the middle of the city that is useless to ANYONE without cutting the trees down. No one is enjoying these beautiful trees on this vacant lot. If it was possible to build and keep them, I would. Their overhang takes up the entire lot. But to save a tree for the sake of saving a tree that no one actually gets to enjoy is asinine.

To think no one is enjoying that tree is asinine. I bet a creative design could save the tree . Do you have photos and/or a survey showing trees you can post?

the lot has a bunch of sheds for other properties that back up to the property line so sure maybe those neighbors get some view of the oaks. But I'm not worried about their enjoyment of my property but mine.

I am going to TRY to keep one of them. Both is impossible. Will work with architect on that.

No woodworker will go out of their way for red oak. I cut down red oak and have the ability to turn then I to usable lumber, but I turn them in to firewood.

I just drove to Prosper, TX to spend a couple hundred on some hard maple and black cherry.

Well, not saying you’re wrong, but a live oak is actually a white oak

Why do you want to buy this particular lot knowing you’d have to remove old growth live oaks? Something doesn’t add up. I bought four acres with 24 old growth oaks because of the oaks. Spent generous money to nurture them so they will be here when I’m gone for someone else to enjoy.
