Built in GE profile. Assume new in house when built in 2012. Quit heating. Figure fixing would be difficult

looking at getting a new one. Want a GE so it's the same brand as other appliances. Not many new GE built in options and best I can tell none that are stainless. That is without going up to a $1800 convection

Thoughts?

Anyone ever had a microwave fixed?
Anyone have mismatched brand kitchen appliances? AND your wife not hate you?

It's generally considered cheaper to just replace the unit rather than fix a part that costs half the price of it.

We have 3 different brand appliances but all are stainless steel. Brand should not matter.

The smokey stainless steel colors that are a very dark Grey are pretty common now.

Built in GE profile.

Is this an a over the stove one? Built into wall? Typically a built into wall is just a counter top version that's been put into a frame.
Nonetheless, I have fixed a broken GE microwave.
Typically, there are a few parts that cause your issue.
Some parts to exchange are not very expensive, maybe $10-$20.
Mine ended up being the magnetron, which I'm guessing these days is $100 or so, depending if you want OEM or not. Wasn't super difficult to swap out.
But since, mine was above the stove with the exhaust fan, etc. a new one was gonna run me , at the time, $400'-500.

Sounds like you just need to buy a new microwave and buy a new trim kit for it.

You can order a trim kit from Lowe’s.
We had a Jenn-Aire microwave in the house when we bought it. The magnetron went out in it. Bought another and it went out as well (within the 1st 2 years on each).
Bought a GE profile and have had it since (with a trim kit).

Agreed, especially now that GE Appliances is owned and operated by Haier in China.

We made the mistake of replacing our built-in GE microwave with the same brand, and that GE replacement died within a couple of years.

These built-ins are much more expensive and difficult to replace so I'd strongly recommend some other, more reliable brand.

This could be as simple as a door switch. There are several YouTube videos on how to check them.

My GE Profile just went on brink as it works and doesn’t. Getting stainless GE Profile above range convection m/w for $900. Other one was 8 yrs old.

In our last home we had to replace the microwave & trim piece around it. It sat above our oven. I didn’t realize until it was installed that the digital clock numbers on the microwave were green and the oven digital numbers were orange.

This may not bother you AT ALL, and typically I don’t pay attention to things like that, but for some reason it was extremely noticeable to me because they were stacked right on top of each other. Just something to consider when buying a new microwave…
