Fire Ant Problems

I decided to start watering my yard again. Once I did that I began noticing ant piles pop up. I have thrown the Ortho Fire Ant killer and have killed the piles, but a day later, two more pop up. I feel I’m just chasing ants around and I don’t like putting poison out because I have to be extra vigilant with my dogs.
I had pest control throw out granules about 2 months ago as well.
Any suggestions?

Granular Talstar. Broadcast over the whole yard.

I broadcast “Over and Out” 2x per year. Haven’t had fire ants in 10 years. Both neighbors got em bad cause they only treat the mound.

I use bifen It. Mix with water and spray whole yard. I have a 16 gal. tank with boomless sprayer mounted on lawnmower rollover bar. Second application two weeks later then about every 3 month.
I would spray eves for spiders and bushes for mosquitos.
Avoid flowers because it will kill bees. Keep dogs off of it for about 2 hours.

Ant poison of your choice. Carry it with you when you mow.
Makes it easy. You're covering your whole yard, and hitting them once a week. Eventually they will be under control.

I prefer to spot-treat with Orthene powder, because it kills the mound so fast that it won't move elsewhere - provided you're careful not to disturb the ants as you sprinkle it on.

I’ve had good luck with Amdro. They may have change the formula as the last time I used it after many months of none, it seemed to take longer to work.

I used the stuff for termites. Had a couple hundred ant beds on my acres. Now none. First time in 20 years.
