Home Depot link

Will this work in a 1000sqft metal building with no insulation? I have a 30” exhaust fan at the top of the roof. Or would I be pissing in the wind with no insulation?

Discussing on the porch with family.

Are you in the South? If so they do ok. Not great with the high humidity. It’s better than nothing. We’ve add bag ice to ports cools at work it helps. They work great in hot low humidity situations

I don't think you want them in an enclosed space in high humidity. People seem to say they work decently on patios down here.

as noted you’ll be fighting the humidity…at 90+% humidity it isn’t going to work very well. My college roommate lived in a cabin in the desert when he was at 29 palms and had one that cooled his place incredibly well

Yeah, they're not that great in humid areas. They're really good in dry, desert air, but we don't need more moisture in the air during a southeastern Summer, we need less.

I use high pressure mist evaporative cooling on the patio. It starts working when temp and dew point are about 20 degrees apart. It starts working really good at about 25 degrees of separation.
I’m guessing those porta-cool units would be about the same but I’ve only used them in west Texas where humidity wasn’t even a factor.

I have the largest one that portacool makes which is much bigger than the one you posted(22,500 cfm) and it only makes a difference about 5-10 foot away from the fan. anything outside of that and it just feels like a fan. My guess is it would do nothing to cool a large metal building with no insulation.

Ibought one last year, and in cases of events outside I think that they may be ok. Like an LSU game watching, I will go buy 4-5 sacks of Ice and make a slurry, add that in with a pitcher a few times and the air is nice and cool. But it is a little humid at times so we just kinda point it away from everything and it does seem to make the porch a few degrees cooler. The air is cool coming out of it, but sitting in front of it a long time isnt for me. For regular short term use I just kick on the ceiling fans and a big box fan to get the air swirling and it is almost the same. I bet they work like a champ in a dry climate.

I bought a hessaire from home depot and it's been great. Live in Baton Rouge where my old fan would just push hot air on you this actually feels good.

I use it outside though not in an inclosed space so I can't speak on that.
