I've had Hardie board siding on my home since 2000 and love it. It's extremely durable and acts as a good insulator. Also, very easy to paint. The only drawback today is the cost is higher now than when I purchased it 20 years ago. It was a new material back then.
Here is a definition of Hardie Board Siding:
Hardie Board siding is not only durable, but it's also long-lasting. It has a longer lifespan than almost every other siding material option available. Fiber cement will never rot, and it doesn't buckle or warp. James Hardie products also come with a 30- to 50-year warranty.
Hope that helped.

quote:Why? Due to potentially busting/cracking the board too large of a nail shank or for warranty, both? thx.
Yes, just make certain the correct size nails are used.
I have some i'm going to replace that wasn't installed correctly - a wall meets a roofline where it looks like the cut on the hardie was not painted/sealed.

Whole house. Old vernacular Acadian farmhouse mix. 10 years old this week. No complaints whatsoever. Follow the manufacturer recommendations for install. Four biggest things are nails used to attach, butt joints, corners, and do not caulk the bottoms.

It’s always a bit of a surprise at first when you don’t realize a post was moved from the OT.
