Their Certificate of Insurance will have all the necessary information. I don't know what the minimums are in that business though.

Get an insurance certificate showing they have at least $1 million coverage (preferably more) in general liability. It should also show Worker’s Comp. and auto insurance. Ask if you can be listed as an additional insured on the certificate.

Be sure that the certificate is current.

If the price to cut it down seems too good it probably is. Neighbors had a few trees taken down after a storm. The guys had a Bobcat and some chains to pull some stuff down. One dude's baby momma was in the car chilling for 6 hours watching. They did the job but I was pretty concerned for my yard in the event that ole dude fell 40 feet.

Good points already, but I’ll add it wouldn’t hurt to stalk them on social media, assuming they have one. Do they use bucket trucks, have a guy scale the tree, or just trust their ability to fell a tree in the right direction

This.
And don't simply look at the date. Actually call the agent and confirm it is legitimate, current and to that tree company.
