trunk splits off to three main branches. 2 of 3 are dead. The third is perfectly fine. I want to cut away the dead ones. Do I need to seal the trunk? If so, recommend any products?

Just make sure you make a clean cut. Trees heal themselves.

Cutting 2 of the 3 "Main Branches" may be a problem. But being as they are dead, you don't have a choice.

What kind of tree?

I’ve only done this on crape Myrtle a to prevent the small little “spreaders” that appear
