Our GE dishwasher is around 16 years old. It came with the house when we bought it. I have never been real crazy about it. It just doesn’t seem to clean very well and it is starting to not even dissolve the washing pod. I don’t know much about dishwashers so I’m asking for recommendations. What dishwasher should I be looking at getting? I’m looking for something that will last a clean good and last a while.

Bosch is the universal answer here.

My old dishwasher went out summer 2020. Unfortunately Bosch were near completely unavailable at that time as the factory quit producing them during Covid.

I chose a KitchenAid instead and have no complaints (so far).

I appreciate it. I have never bought a dishwasher in my life. Everywhere that I’ve ever lived has had them. I don’t mind paying a little for quality as long as it’s worth it. I’ve got my Weber grill and my Speed Queen washer because I don’t want to have to worry about appliances going out. Does anyone else have any recommendations?

Go back with a GE or get a Whirlpool. Samsung and Kitchen Aid are unreliable and not as good IMO. I have heard Bosch is hard to beat though.

I got a Bosch two year ago and have had problems with the door latch. Other wise it seem to be a good dish washer.

If anyone has similar issues, I had to break off the piece of the latch with the magnet. Just stick the magnet on the metal and it seems to work now.

Ours went out a month ago. We have researched this up and down. We are ordering a Bosch on Monday. Replacing a 7 year old GE.

We've had Bosch in our past 2 homes and in our rental properties. They clean better in my experience than Kichen Aid and GE Profile which we had before we made the switch to Bosch.

FWIW, the top 3 on Consumer Reports are Thermador.
4-8 Bosch
9 Thermador
10-16 Bosch

What model Bosch are you going with?

It’s been a little while, but I can go to try to find the articles on it. By the book, you shouldn’t see cleaning performance differences between the Bosch 500, 800, and Benchmark series, but in a ridiculous set of testing, the Benchmark series cleaned a bit better.
For the money, you’re generally better off going Bosch vs other brand at that price.
But if you’re looking for outstanding cleaning performance, their Benchmark series is a cut above just about anything out there.
I bought a top-control model about a year ago. Sometimes I wish I would’ve gotten the model with a clock, that way I could have three kitchen clocks with the wrong time instead of two.

Bosch or most any other mid to higher end dishwasher is the answer.
Nearly all that are not entry level are modeled on the Bosch.
There is a reason for that.
You are golden with a Bosch 500 or higher.

I've built two houses and my first dishwasher was a Bosch, my second was a Bosch and if I ever buy another one, it will be a Bosch.

I appreciate the recommendations. I may stop by Lowes this week and take a look at them. It looks like I may have to look at the Bosch 500s.

Lowes in BR only had the 100 and 300 series in store. I dont think that HD had any. We are going by both Lowes and HD tomorrow and seeing who can get it to the house the fastest.

I will say, the 300 and 500 series are very similar, appearance wise. Think the 300 doesnt have adjustable racks, doesnt pop open when done, and maybe doesnt have the status light.

Find someone who works on dishwashers. Ask them what they can get parts for. Buy that brand. They all break. Do not touch Samsung with a ten foot pole.

Pay attention to the decibel ratings... Loud dishwashers drive me insane!

Short answer: Bosch is correct.

Longer answer:
My uncle spent 25 or 30 years repairing appliances, so he's always been my go-to for questions. He says DO NOT buy Samsung appliances...ovens, dishwashers, washer/dryer, etc. They all break way more than any other but cost as much or more.

As for the most mainstream and readily available option, he said Kenmore or Whirlpool. But if all options are on the table, Bosch, no question.

Bought our Bosch from a local appliance dealer (Lowe's, HD, etc don't usually have the full lines). We got, I think, the 500. It's not the highest end, but it's got everything we wanted. In our case, we came across a deal on installation that made the price pretty close to other/cheaper brands. But the guy at that store told me everyone who works there personally has a Bosch and they repair them much less often than any other brand they sell. I really like the top/third rack, which I haven't seen in other brands. It cleans well and runs quiet.

Avoid GE. They are made by a Chinese company now. I have their top of the line Cafe dishwasher and it is absolutely horrible. I am on my 2nd one due to a warranty claim, and it has too many problems to list here.

Every repair man I have had fix this thing says to avoid GE like the plague.
