I purchased some Celsius (MSM Turf). Dang instructions are only for oz per acre. No help at all. I just need to know how much to put in a gallon sprayer.

MSM Turf is not Celsius. Assuming you got MSM Turf:

quote:

For most applications, it is suggested to add 0.025 to 0.05 ounce (1/2 - 1 gram) of MSM Turf Herbicide to 1 gallon of water
it varies by your turfgrass and what you are trying to control

Is it possible they were realitively "young" plants that hadn't established a strong root system?

That Dallis grass was there for awhile. My neighbor bought some Image All-In-One from tractor supply. It has a light blueish gray top. I’ve never seen this kind of Image before in Lowe’s or Home Depot and it works on centipede, bermuda, and zoysia. You can’t spray it on St. Augustine. My neighbor sprayed 4 ounces per gallon and it killed the ever living hell out broadleaf weeds, grasses like Dallis and crabgrass, and what I call johnson grass. I’ve never been high on Image products but that stuff killed everything that needed to go yet did not hurt his yard. It worked much faster than my Celsius. I have no earthly idea what Sulfentrazone 1.6%, Quandorac 5%, other ingredients 93.4%. I don’t care what those ingredients are all I know is my neighbor filled up his 4 gallon sprayer and bombed his yard twice over 30 days. The man doesn’t have a weed in his yard now.

Image doesn’t kill grassy weeds…. It will kill the piss out of broadleaf stuff though. MSMA is the only thing I’ve used that will suppress Dallis grass. Now I just dig it up when it rains and the soil is soft. I really only use 3 weed suppressants - katana (nutsedge)- speed zone (broad leaf)- MSMA (everything else) but be careful with MSMA, it’s bad shite and it will kill oak trees.

I’ve never seen Image All In One until a few days ago but it killed Dallis grass in my neighbors yard. It says it right on the label that it kills crabgrass and other hard to kill grasses. I didn’t think it would work, but my neighbor has dead crabgrass all over his yard and the Dallis grass is all wilted over and dying. Whether his Dallis grass grows back or not I don’t know, but from the looks of it I’d say it’s not coming back for a very long time. Celcius worked for me, but again that stuff might come back between now and next spring. I don’t think it’s coming back. My dad used MSMA when I was growing up. It turned the whole yard yellow. The only thing that lived was the centipede but it looked like arse until it bounced back.

Centipede would not survive MSMA. It would be the first thing to die.

Ronk, when I was a kid back in the 70’s and 80’s my dad sprayed MSMA on our yard in Ruston. It turned the centipede yellow to orange color. For all practical purposes for awhile it looked dead. Much to my dismay the stuff always grew back minus the weeds. Believe me you, I mowed that acre lot with a push mower, and prayed it died for the summer because I preferred to do anything but cut that yard. For 30 days our yard looked terrible though, but once it bounced back it came on strong. I know that spraying centipede with MSMA is not a common practice, but it was years ago. I’ve got a feeling my dad did not apply it at full strength.

Any recommendations for handling Dallis Grass in St. Augustine? MSMA do the trick?

I’ve never had St Augustine. Only centipede, bermuda, and zoysia. I use Celsius. It’s the one Site One Landscape Supply sold me to use on my yard. It killed my Dallis Grass albeit it says on the label it only suppresses it. For all I know mine could come back but it hasn’t in 2 springs. From the sounds of it I got lucky. Others on here say they’ve tried everything and dug it up after a rain storm. No I wouldn’t spray MSMA on St Augustine. My dad used it on centipede in the 70’s and 80’s but Ronk said it’s supposed to kill centipede. I think the centipede I had as a kid was just hardy. Seems like you could spray Roundup on that yard and it would eventually bounce back. I’m fairly certain they told me at Sight One Celsius was safe for St Augustine. It might not kill your Dallis Grass but it might knock it back for awhile. If it starts to grow back spray it again.

So, my yard has terrible Dallis grass. Went to the local Weed and Feed store and they suggested this stuff called Eraser; it was about $25. Told me I could paint it on with a paint brush if I was worried about it getting on my grass, I'm not. I used it in the sprayer and it has worked great! Every clump of Dallis grass that I sprayed is dead! I'm actually pretty excited as I've been fighting this stuff for years and this is the first thing I've found that has worked. Anyways, just wanted to pass this on to everyone else. Eraser is the name of it, 4 ozs to a gallon of water.

The active ingredient in Eraser herbicide is glyphosate, aka, “Roundup” which has already been mentioned as the most practical option for most homeowners in this thread. Of course it will kill your lawn grass as well if you don’t confine it to the Dallisgrass.
