Home in W Fel Parish. 3 acres. Just moved a ton of dirt out of backyard into sloping front yard and graded it out. Got water flowing correctly now. Have been recommended zoysia grass for this type of soil. Need grass.

Options:
1-20 pallets zoysia direct from farm being quoted 6k for sod and 2k to lay(don’t want to spend this much)
2-seed it and lay down erosion control fabric to help firm up mud areas while seed grows
3-hydro seed? Don’t know much about it
4-sod perimeter of house and plant the rest of it

Any advice

If it’s an open lot I’d look at Bermuda. If you have that much land and you go with centipede/st Aug/zoysia and you have an issue (webworms, grubs, chinch bugs, disease) it’s going to take forever to recover. Seeding it cheapest but the least likely get you an instant lawn. There is a poster here that hydro seeded Bermuda and his lawn looks awesome. Hopefully he chimes in.

3 acres is 130K sq ft. 20 pallets of sod is only 9K (450 sq ft per pallet). The price per pallet & installation is reasonable, but way too expensive to sod your entire yard. Seems like your option 1 and 4 are the same?

If your land is open and full sun, I’d seed Bermuda.

I have 4 acres and have taken Option 4.

I installed about 25 pallets of Palisade Zoysia around the house and driveway soon after completion of the build. It’s by far my favorite of the grasses.

My initial plan was to use Zoysia seed and the reason I selected the Palisade Zoysia. However, zoysia seed is very expensive and tough to grow, so I decided to go with Bermuda seed.

I’ve been slowly working my way around the yard in 10-15ksqft patches. I started with Arden 15 but have switched to Royal TXD for the cost (and Arden 15 is no longer available).

If you can hydro seed, that’s a great option. It’s usually recommended to continue to water after hydroseeding and I couldn’t manage that for the area. What I could manage to water, it’s easy enough to seed myself.

I like la prima, blackjack or Yukon currently. Royal TXD is Yukon and la prima mixed together. There’s not a big difference as long as it’s an improved seed.

Similar set up here with 3-4 acres. Celebration Bermuda Sod around the house and seeded with Hancock Royal has been a work in progress. Don't forget to fertilize and water like a mofo

Sodding certainly costs the most, but it's the most guaranteed to work with as few of weed infestations as the other seeding choices.
My space is about 3 acres of grass to cut. Previous owner (and was the original owner) sodden with zoysia on most of the grass in the front of the house. To the sides he must have seeded with maybe Bermuda and others.
Only the zoysia looks the best. Other areas have some weeds.

Disclaimer: I typically don't fertilize the yard. Only water.
