Pros? Cons?

Have a decent amount of lawn renovation to do near garden beds and thought it’d be a good idea to knock out a project like this before fixing up the lawn. Any recs or advice?

I’m not really clear on what you are talking about. Are you talking about the little concrete blocks that you put around flower beds to separate them from the lawn or what?

assuming he is talking about a poured in place concrete curb (I assumed he was), that’s a permanent install. It can never change without a great deal of effort and expense even if the homeowner wants to. Can’t ever expand the bed, change the layout, remove it entirely.

plus it looks like shite

Something like this. Solid concrete edging. My garden beds range from 5’ to 8’ off the house which I don’t think I’ll be expanding. Currently have metal edging in front yard, and concrete blocks in the back yard. I just think they both look like crap and think the solid concrete edging looks better.

I use concrete edging on commercial projects but use a stone edger set in a grout bed on residential. Stone has a more warm feel, looks better and is a bit easier to build. If you don't get the radius spot on then concrete edgers can look shitty.

Pros? Cons?

PROS: lasts forever and looks good / better than metal edging (IMO) - also metal edging can eventually rust if the thin coating comes off due to weedeating, etc.

CONS: expensive cost per LF and there's still maintenance to do (touch up paint / coating every few years)

I have personally replaced a lot of my metal edging with concrete curb edging around my beds.

Rock it, can move with the soil expansion cycles and you can make changes in the future including removal much easier. NTM rock just looks better.

That looks damn good! Keep in mind that it will not always look that good because the stain will wear off with quickness when outside.

I personally am too cheap for something like that, but it does look great!

ETA: That wouldn’t work in my area, because we have some expansive clay soils that would break them up.

Are you talking about something like Curb a Garden? I've never liked the look of it.
