There is nothing more aggravating than trying to put the chain back on the saw. Genius system invented by an engineer who lived in an apartment.

Getting it on usually isn’t the hard part for me, it’s getting the chain unkinked.

I've got a Stihl and it's not at all hard to get the chain on or off the saw.

Remove the protective cover, loosen the bolt by the engine, push the bar back to allow the chain to go on easily, push the bar back out to get tension on the chain and tighten down the nut to secure it and replace the cover.

Don't know what kind of chain saw you have to make it difficult to replace the chain.

Getting it on off is the easy part.

Keeping it sharp is a bit harder.

It’s like one of those damn metal brain teaser puzzles where you have to take two pieces apart.

My Stihl’s are fairly easy but it comes with practice. Kind of like the starting process. Learn the “method” for each saw and brand. One thing I’ve found to help me with changing or replacing a chain in the field, is a large scrub brush. Dollar tree, long handle with chap bristles. I clean the outer parts quickly and then the sprocket and base. I find a quick cleaning helps the process. I sharpen in the field so I rarely take one off in the field.

Takes a minute or two at most. Easier than putting line in a SpeedFeed head.

Found a video for this on YouTube the first time I had the issue. Now I can usually get it unkinked in less than 30 seconds.
