Had one I haven't seen or heard before. Weird almost clicking sound, when it flew off I was like dang it looks like its flying backwards.

Bright orange tail that almost looked like a beak of a bird flying the other way

Decently big bird. Gray in color from what I could tell. Central AL

The Audubon app has a bird identifier that lets you put in the area, size, color, habitat, flying style, etc. and it gives you a list with pics that it could be based on your answers.

Whistling tree duck ? They have a sort of squeak sound. Short tail so they do look kind of funny flying .

American redstart or northern flicker are two that Audubon suggested.

I have the BirdNET app
You record the sound of the bird and it tells you what bird you're hearing
