6 hours on palisade zoysia will keep your yard plush. I find the areas that get a half day are my best areas of yard. I would cut on the lowest setting of your mower. Make sure your yard is flat and a rotary mower real low looks nice

I have a huge live oak that has st aug under it. Have Bermuda throughout everywhere else. Would love to plant Zoysia under the trees. Would that be doable? How hard is it to plant zoysia from seed and how long before I see it sprouting?

Warm season grasses are difficult to grow from seed. Almost not worth it.
Ronk says so.

Make sure to open up the oaks. Trim for good filtered light.

Yeah that’s not happening. That tree is over 150 years old and has branches on the ground. I will just leave st Aug there and try to fertilize it and cut it short.

UPDATE-

chose empire zoysia, got it local and delivered, can cut it low enough, shade tolerant, good feel overall, lower maintenance than Bermuda…has leftover also which I was able to put down at my moms house who has empire.

Question- should I do any starter fertilizer even a liquid of sorts, or just wait till spring and let this root in well ? Plan to skip spring pre emg and just hit with herbicide as needed …

Thanks for everyone’s input

Looks great. Empire Zoysia is what I put down for my parents. It’s a great turf grass. Simply let it try to root up best it can and come spring then start your normal routine.
