The Install guy said I'll need a larger meter and gas feed to run my Kholer 20kw coming in soon. Does anyone know if they charge to put a larger meter in, or how long it takes to get them out?

ETA with Entergy

I think it depends on your contract with Entergy in the jurisdiction. My parents live in EBR and they’ll swap the regulator and meter for free. But the permit takes forever and they have no incentive to hurry up and approve it so expect a month or two on that.

From my experience, the upstream regulator matters a lot more than the meter itself. I have the old original meter on my house (1987) but the upstream regulator is quite large so my 20kW Honeywell runs just fine with it and isn’t starved of fuel. Entergy may still insist on swapping the meter though.

Atmos could be his gas provider in Baton Rouge.

True. Should’ve not mentioned Entergy specifically - whoever is the gas provider probably has that stipulation in the contract.

Entergy replaced ours with no charge, but that was about 10 years ago.

I have the same thing going on - I sent an email to Entergy and this was the response I received:

Thank you for reaching out to us here at Entergy. We apologize for the delayed response. We appreciate you giving us an email about installing a generator at that location. Unforntantly, these requests are not processed over email or handled by this department. If you would like to have a generator installed at the location, you will need to call our customer service center and speak with an agent in our Tech Department.

Had ours replaced with a new generator earlier this year. Entergy changed out meter at no cost to us. Contractor/Installer gave us these instructions:

Call Entergy Gas: 800-368-3749

Existing load = 180,000btu (yours may differ)
Generator size = 20kw 281,000btu(yours may differ)
New Connected Load = 461,000btu

CALL STATEMENT:
IVE INSTALLED A NEW GENERATOR AND NEED A GAS METER UPGRADE TO 2 PSI.
MY NEW CONNECTED LOAD IS 461,000 BTUS.
MY CONTRACTOR IS ..... (give phone number)

No charge. Their thought is that the larger meter means you become a larger customer. I just had mine done for same reason a few months ago.

My gas company made me hook it up before they upgraded the meter.
