$100-150K is insane. I would look elsewhere for a contractor. This guy has hyper-inflated his costs. I just remodeled my master bath shower and tub, with the bathtub drain having to be moved about 6 inches. The entire job cost $10k. I get that you need cabinets, but that is just crazy. I would have to tell that contractor to take a walk. I would say 50-70k is about right for an entire remodel.

We reroofed, resided, painted, replace windows, new floors, remodeled two small baths, painted interior, of a 1100 square foot house near LSU for less than 70k 2 years ago.

We bought all material and our contractor quoted labor.

100k for a bathroom is pure stupidity.

I was planning on budgeting 30-50k for it

At the end of the day, I think ours was right at $40k last year.

Big demo job of ripping out old closed in leaking shower, nonfunctional jacuzzi tub, and floors. The new shower and soaking tub stand in old footprint so wasn’t major plumbing operation. Shower glass and tile and new large tile floors. New vents and drywall and ceiling. Complete repaint.

We were initially going to rip out and replace all the cabinets, and then I realized that was foolish as previous owners had quality setup and marble tops. So we just had them sanded down and repainted. We probably saved $10k on that aspect.

So yeah, I think your budget seems pretty accurate to expect $40-50k

Not sure if you want to try and contract this yourself

I redid our laundry room...well mostly done... tile, cabinets, plumbing etc.

So i thought about contracting out everything. But I think theres enough design input that my wife wants and some changes that I would rather have a contractor coordinate it all.

Plus, I can barely get some trade people to show up let alone trying to coordinate all of this during my day job.

You’re thinking $100K is insane.

I was thinking $50K was insane.
If I spent $10K on materials that would be a lot. $40K in labor? Is that a 2 month long job working every day?

What would the average cost be to have a shower/tub ripped out and replaced with something similar? Nothing fancy. Basic Stuff.

Up until 10-12 years agoI used to do them for about 2k. But people often said I wasn’t charging enough. I would think a tub replacement , demo existing tile, install new waterproofing and new tile would probably be in the 3-5k neighborhood. Lot of variables, though. Location, fixtures, finishes.

Anyway was just kind of surprised at the numbers. This is before any evaluation or anything. I had put down that I was looking to spend 30-50k on the reno, but he was basically like most of their clients spend 100-150k on a bathroom on a master remodel. I just think its crazy there are people spending 150 on a bathroom. Just trying to see if I should even entertain this guy coming out and doing a real quote or just move on.

We just spent $100k on a kitchen remodel a couple of years ago.

I can't imagine spending anywhere close to that on a master bathroom remodel. A few cabinets, toilet, shower... Figured the shower would be the most costly part?
