I have a south facing concrete retaining wall that I would like to grow vines on. Gets abundance of sun in summer. Trying to avoid vines that will get scorched and provide only sparse coverage. Considering Boston Ivy but have my doubts it can withstand the heat. Planting hedges along the wall is not an option since space is tight and I don't want to lose several feet of yard.

Fig Vine (ficus pumila) It can take over if you don't keep it maintained.

Virginia Creeper is another option but again, it spreads. If you can find the Englemans Ivy variety, it is less vigorous so won't spread as easily

Don’t know if it’s the same but Carolina Jasmine has always spread well for us.
