Do other remodeling businesses have financing options?

Haven't used HD or Lowes, but they just contract it out to a local contractor/business normally. I would do you own research on remodelers and cut out the middle man (HD, Lowes)

You can always use a 3rd party lender for home renovations. I used GreenSky when I replaced my windows. They were offering 18 months 0% APR so it was worth it to finance even though I had the money. I think LightStream is another company that specializes in renovation financing. Check with your bank to see if that have any type of financing for this.

Good luck with the reno

What about using a HELOC and getting your own contractor?

I would not use HD or Lowes. They simply contract with local contractors and mark up the price for profit. You'd do better dealing with a contractor directly. If you have to finance (nothing wrong with that since this isn't the OT), use a bank or other lending institute.

Ha, I thought I might catch some if I mentioned that word. I’ve done numerous house projects on opening new credit cards without interest for the first year or so. Trying not to have a ton of cards I don’t use after I pay them off. Thanks for the input guys!

I've used lowe's and home depot for granite countertops.
And I bought appliances from Lowe's.
But, I wouldn't consider that a "remodel".

Definitely go with an independent contractor.
When getting estimates on gutters, one of the contractors stated that he subbed out to Home Depot at a markup over his regular pricing.

this^^^

Plus of course they'll want him to use their stuff.

For instance their lower quality faucet's instead of something better from a plumbing supply house. And from experience many are just the same on the outside. Another would be their lumber where the price of trim is often way out of sight. Would this also include cabinets, because no way I'd want to be tied to a big box for them?

A word of caution: most of the better trades people are busy enough from doing quality work, that they don't need a middle guy soaking up any profits, and right now they're in even higher demand. The wait might surprise you.

I had a terrible terrible terrible experience with Lowe’s subcontractors (shittiest of the shite) and will never use a big box store for anything ever again (including appliances lol)

We got our cabinets and countertops through Lowes. The process was simple and was not much more than what we were quoted by independent contractors. We Went Kraftmaid cabinets and quartz counters that were a Lowes "exclusive". Would do again. The lead time were MUCH better with Lowes and that was well worth the extra $400 IMO. A month faster to have a kitchen again after the flood was great.

Hate to break it to you but this usually means it's a lower quality product

I would generally agree but they were the only company in Louisiana that carried the quartz the boss lady picked out. It was special order even then. Lower quality or not, 4 years later, they look just as clean and shiny as the day they were installed. Sage Surfaces reps the A&R brand and rumor has it that it's actually made by Silestone for them. Either way, we could not be happier with both our cabinets and the countertops. YMMV but going from eating on plywood and paper plates tends to make you much more appreciative of the things you get. For us, the 4 week time difference between Lowe's and every private contractor was worth thousands to us and was about $400 more after all things were considered and that was against the lowest bid. Most bids were thousands more for crap.

I used Lowe’s for Granite when we remodeled our first house. At the time it was the best price around. I feel like when we built our last house I priced cabinets and countertops with them and it was crazy expensive
