I have a Tru Green guy coming to look at my yard to give me an estimate today. I'm curious if anybody here uses them or has used them in the past?

Complaints? Compliments?

this was 20 years ago but when i bought a house in mandeville they were already under contract...the 2AC lawn looked like fenway park. it was expensive though and i decided not to renew, plus i didnt like my place getting hosed down with chemicals

YMMV, but the lawn looked fantastic

I am current customer (I wouldn't necessarily say I'm a satisfied one)

here is a post I made recently a about my current issues

I'll say this, their service is great for weed control. Outside of that...meh

I tried in Florida because my dogs had torn up our sandy backyard and the previous owners used them and it looked great when I first moved in.

When the guy showed up and tried telling me that my centipede lawn was St. Aug I told him nope and just did it myself.

It is pricey when compared to doing it yourself but if you don't want keep up with fertilizer, herbicides, and making a lawn care schedule I guess it isn't too bad.

Just make sure the guy is smart enough to know what type of grass you have.

I'm my old house some 15 years ago I had them come out to give me an estimate on our yard.

We had a decent sized silver maple in the front yard and bermuda or zoysia would not grow so I had fescue.

The guy came out and was telling me how he needed to kill all those weeds so my yard would look good. I had to explain to him how that fescue wasn't a weed.

Regardless to say, I didn't hire them.

Why pay them when you have this board? I’ve seen some top quality responses, people on here seem to know more than your residential weed control company. Post some pics, buy a backpack sprayer and a fertilizer spreader, and meet some new friends at your local lawn and garden store. Own your yard. It’s also great therapy.

+1 on this, you can do it yourself for a fraction of the price and learn to enjoy it rather than seeing it as a chore. On the other hand if you have money to burn or absolutely no time or desire then have at it, just know that a lot of those guys are just doing what they are told and really have no clue on how to fix your yard.

I get them to do a one time treatment. It works really well for my yard. It stays weed free well into the winter. No complaints here.

I’d either do your own, or hire a local company. Preferably a small one where the actual guy doing it is more likely to 1) know what he’s doing and 2) care.

I used them. They did just an average job. I stopped the service, but they would not leave me alone. They were relentless. I threatened lawsuits - turned them in to the Better Business Bureau. That went on for some time. They finally stopped after I had sent a letter to their regional office. So...not a fan.

I decided to do this a year ago and I went from loathing anything to do with the yard to loving it. Lawn is night and day difference from a year ago now and it was much cheaper than paying someone. It really is therapeutic.

Thanks everybody for your feedback!

I have centipede grass. Main weed problem is dallisgrass patches in the front yard, and sand burrs in the backyard. My poor little kids can't run around barefoot in the backyard because of the stickers. I use big box store herbicides (pre-emergents) and Milorganite. I will say that the Milorganite is legit as far as greening up the grass and making it look healthy, and the pre-emergents did a so/so job for a month or two). But then I see some of my neighbors' yards and they look so pretty with no fricking weeds whatsoever, and mine looks decent but you can still see a patch of dallisgrass here and there, and that drives me crazy. I notice that the neighbors have their yards treated by Tru Green and other services, so I decided to follow suit. I've been crazy with projects and yard work during these times, with nothing else to do. It's like it's more obvious to me now because of how crazy I've gone this spring doing yard work. I just want a pretty yard with no weeds and I'm willing to pay premium price to achieve that.

Did you ask Trugreen how they planned on getting rid of the Dallisgrass? They have to use sethoxydim. I know they have access to every product but I don't know if they use every product. If you are in Baton Rouge that Trugreen location is a franchise and not a corporate owned location.

Depends who you get. I had them in Lafayette and they were terrible.

I had them in Florida and like you said it was average. Cancelled and moved to Virginia. Changed phone numbers too. Them frickers still found me. If Jimmy Hoffa would have used Tru Green, the case would have been solved within a week

My next door neighbor is a Tru Green customer, his yard is nicer than mine. It's not like I don't try, but his is definitely nicer. The service he has is they just come spray something every couple months. He does his own mowing and edging.

I use them in Baton Rouge and would say I’m moderately satisfied. My lawn doesn’t look amazing or anything, but the weeds are under control, the service is convenient and the prices are reasonable. I don’t like dealing with those chemicals myself and was struggling to find the time to do it on schedule, and I like that they come during the day and spray them so they are definitely dry by the time I get home from work and let the dog and child out into the backyard.

My two biggest issues are dallisgrass and nutsedge. They haven’t completely eliminated them, but have done a decent job of suppressing them. The dallisgrass was terribly out of control in my backyard before I hired them, and they definitely made a huge difference. One issue is that my yard consists of three different turf grasses, so it may be tough to find the right application that works optimally for all three.

One good thing is that if you aren’t satisfied after one of the regularly scheduled applications, you can contact them after 10-14 days and they come back out and do another “service call” application for free. I’ll typically take advantage of that a couple times a year and haven’t had any issues with them coming back out. This is with the Baton Rouge location, not sure if every location offers that.
