Aeration and top dressing

Getting quotes for aeration and top dressing with compost. Does anyone know the best time to have this done: should I schedule February or is it better to do it in March/April

I would think March/April so the lawn could recover easier. Where are you located?
I’m planning to aerate mine after the first cut after the initial scalp.
Maybe Craw and Ronk will chime in with their opinions.

St Aug/centipede I like a spring or fall aeration. March/April and September/October. I want my grass to be actively growing but without the stress of extreme temps.

I plan to do the same this year with mason sand. Shooting for May/June so growth can be at its best.

Need to do it in the warmer months so the grass can repair itself. May/June would be ideal

I’d say April because it will be a little warmer and the turf will pop through quick

I messed up areas of my front yard trying to do this myself w/ mason sand in May. The yard has several low spots and areas that took ~1.5” or more of mason sand killed the centipede under it. I kept waiting for it to show signs of filling in with no prevail. Looked like fairway bunkers, wife was pissed. I had to do an emergency sod patch job in October on top of it.
I think St. Aug would have recovered but the centipede just died.

When top dressing it has to be done slowly. If you need an inch and a half to fill then hole then you do it .25-.33 inches at a time. You don't want to suffocate the grass.

Can’t add much to the excellent advice others have provided other to emphasize to aerate when the grass is actively growing. For me in BTR, that would be usually be AprilMay for centipede.
