Power Flickered twice, then ac was struggling to restart, blowing warm air.

turned off for 30 minutes and then back on, started acting better. Finally about 4-6 hours later, its working again. Should i get someone to come check this out?

my guess would maybe be a capacitor or fuses going weak/bad. but it's working again so count your blessings.

You may want to upgrade your contactor to a solid state unit with built-in brownout protection. Not sure I can comment on the status of your unit now but I would get one of these to prevent it later:

I know my old unit would go into a protection mode with some power flickers. I'd have to turn it off for a while and back on. I had my AC guy at the time come out and he said it was normal. All I know is now, when the power gets squirrely from a storm passing through, I kill the unit at the first outage.

Thermostats have a delay after powering up.

Compressors have trouble starting with power going off and on quickly. Too much pressure says my AC guy.

I try to shut down my AC if power if flickering. Then I wait to make sure power is stable before turning back on.

“started acting better” is confusing to me relative to “ it began working again after 4-6 hours”. Can you better clarify?

As stated by others there are time delays installed in the circuitry - control board, thermostat - to prevent the compressor from starting and stopping in rapid succession to allow pressures to equalize and prevent damage to the compressor..

You can provide some degree of protection to the condensing unit control board and other electrical components in the condensor from electrical surges by installing a surge protector at the condensing unit disconnect - not that expensive, certainly much less than a HVAC repair of replacing a control board, maybe even replacing a capacitor or contactor, if a tech does it.

Mine was doing that a couple years ago. We had a bad transformer close to the house that would cause the power to flicker a few times a day.

When that happened my AC would go into a protect mode. It showed an error code(Carrier Unit, I don't remember the code) and the compressor wouldn't restart for a couple hours. The blower would still run unless you turned it off. It never damaged anything thankfully. Just a pain in the arse.

It kept happening a few times week until enough of us called Entergy and they replaced the bad transformer.

A power flicker can cause a compressor to run backwards also.
