Spent saturday afternoon weeding some in the garden to prepare for Fall plantings. Its wet. Still have blackeyed peas, okra, and squash going. The strawberry plants are still alive too. The heat returns this week.

In reward, we cooked fresh black eyed peas and fried okra, to go along with chicken fried axis cutlets and rice and gravy.

I did a little bit of garden cleanup (still not enough ) as well. I planted some Dasher II seeds just to try some fall cucumbers since I really didn’t get to take full advantage of my spring crop. Also some of my butternut seeds are sprouting.

Still got a little ways to go to get the garden back in order. I’ll probably be starting some cabbage seeds in the next few weeks.

Planted my cucumbers in waves this year. Wave two is just now producing. Will plant wave three as soon as 1 stops.

I'm gonna direct seed some chard, kale, and cucumbers this weekend. I trimmed back my pepper plants. Going to let them keep going even though they look kinda ratty. The heat is brutal on everything.

I am no longer going to plant the usual Fall stuff. I am just not good at it and while the wife talks a big game about using things like lettuce and cabbage, she doesn't follow through.

My peppers(pots) seemed to gain new life when I moved them to mostly shade. The in ground ones are stagnant. I have two plants in the ground that will neither grow, nor die

I left my squash in after picking a grand total of 6 squash off three plants. Went on vacation for 8 days. Rained every day and miraculously I have squash all over them now. Picked three this morning and have about 10 more that seem to have pollinated and are growing quickly. I also had three cucumbers hanging, but holy shite were they bitter. Was so excited, sliced em up with some vinegar on them and damn near threw up trying to eat them.

No. Beautiful. Prettiest ones I’ve grown all year. But so bitter you wonder if it’s going to give you stomach problems.

Well I hope everyone had some success for spring/summer gardens! Judging by a lot of the photos posted here I’d say a good bit of you did very well!

For me, it was a roller coaster. Started out great then just kinda turned into a mess from neglect. I got so busy at work I barely saw my house for 2 months. Luckily things are settling down now.

Tomorrow I’ll fire up the 2024 Fall Thread!

Similar bucket here. Overall, very pleased with this year. I'm already working on next year's layout. Lots of good stuff shared in this thread.

If I stick sliced cucumbers in a pickle jar full of the juice, will they pickle at all, or is some cooking step required?

Mine did pretty well with the usual suspects. Cucumbers lasted longer for me than they ever have.

My cantaloupes and watermelons produced, but neither got very large fruits. Not sure why. Everything else in the beds did fine.

Up to my ears in cucumbers and squash. Making bread and butter pickles this morning. Not sure what I’m going to do with all the squash, and I just planted 5 more plants. Nice to be able to grow them without SVB’s all over the plants. If I could figure out tomatoes up here, I’d have it licked.
