Pillage, how often do you fertilize your melons? Haven’t done it in a few weeks, went from a few marbled sized on 7/4 to a couple close to volleyball sized. First time to grow them.

I haven’t fertilized my cantaloupe at all.
I’m giving away melons as fast as I can LOL. There’s about a dozen almost ready out there now

watermelon is about to swallow up the bed anyway but no fruit on it yet. The seeds I ordered from baker came in yesterday so I’ll plant those this weekend

your planting watermelon right now?

I've got some canteloupes i planted a few weeks ago, but they are slow to develop. My pumpkins are getting ready to take over the garden. I built a new area just for pumpkin and canteloupe, and watermelon next season so that there's plenty of ground space for them to stretch out into, but i'm already getting nervous thatit's not enough room.

planted a few seeds a few weeks ago the vines are starting to bloom. There’s no such thing as enough room for a melon vine, just roll with it

I’m going to plant some of the melons loup posted about on a trellis they are small fruits

I add some 13-13-13 to the soil at planting and side dress about a month later.

I’ve started to get my mess of a garden back under control. Hopefully I can keep it that way for the rest of the year. Yesterday I decided to sow some waltham butternut squash seeds along my trellis just for shits n giggles. It’s almost time to start prepping for the fall stuff.

I started digging up the rest of the bermuda on side of the house this afternoon. Going to plant some purple hulls and some more squash and zucchini. I went to pull the determinate tomatoes plants and noticed I’ve got some fruit now. Guess the cool snap helped, they are loaded with buds so hopefully with the forecast they’ll set more fruit.

went in on the gripe weed and Bermuda (the two vilest weeds on the planet) with 30% vinegar and dawn…brown and crispy within hours. Got melons planted and got the fall bed dressed with manure before the rain.

I got a load of manure from the dairy farm last fall and it was a little hot and full of weed seeds. It’s been under a tarp on the ground since October and it’s crumbly rotted black gold now. I didn’t know if that would work but I’m happy it did.

Better be careful. If the cows grazed from a pasture that had grazon sprayed on it it will transfer through the manure and kill or stunt your garden.

You could start fall tomatoes and peppers right now. Fall cucumbers the planting guide says to start in August, so that’s pretty soon. Winter squash/pumpkins, especially if you want to try to have pumpkins for Halloween. Probably still enough time for okra and cowpeas.

I sowed some butternut along my trellis and they’re starting to come up. I plan on trying a fall crop of cucumbers just for the heck of it. But it’s gonna be time to start prepping for fall crops soon. Not sure how much of a fall garden I’m going to try to have this year. Probably just cabbage, carrots, onions, and maybe some garlic.

we have cucumbers and tomatoes started in trays and peppers and okra sprouted in the beds. Just planted some more melons

I’m going to leave the eggplant bushes alone and see if we get a fall crop. They are still making fruit but they are pretty stunted

My purple hulls are watching their first sunset. I now have close to 20 sugar baby watermelons. I’m about to go pick one and put in fridge for tomorrow. Squash, peppers and cucumbers going strong, tomatoes have been a bust. I’ve got 3 more plants in ground, hopefully fall crop does better.

nice
found my first newborn on the vine today, hopefully there’s more in that tangle…the vine has swallowed an 8x24 bed and is now running up the trellises and spilling out on the ground. High hopes for these. Still have a dozen or so cantaloupes ripening but the vine seems to be petering out. I’m guessing we got about 30 altogether

I don’t have much a yard here, almost a 1/4 of the backyard is now a melon patch and growing. It’s amazing how quickly they grow, marble sized to ping pong almost overnight.
