Is it too late for me to plant strawberries in Baton Rouge?
LSU book says to plant in November but Cleggs still has a bunch of plants at the store.

Can you post some pics of your mushroom set up? We are growing indoors but would love to move outside.

Not much of a setup. I have a corner in my yard that is shaded and stays moist with a very small bit of dappled sunlight. I have smaller logs leaned up against my privacy fence. The larger ones are in a 8 X 6 mesh enclosure to keep the squirrels and chipmunks away. I have them set up vertically and 6 - 8 inches apart along the perimeter. I put a layer of cardboard on the ground, and mesh on top of the perimeter also to keep the falling leaves out.
I have about 24 logs total, but it is just for personal use. I had only 10 logs this year and added 14 more in December and this month. I saved a few shiitake and lion's mane plugs and inoculated some grow bags with them so I have some mushrooms while I am waiting for my logs to colonize.

If its bare root plants I'd say it is too late. Transplants would probably be ok, but I'd wait till this cold weather passes. I usually fill in some of my die off with transplants in the early spring.

When do we start the indoor seed stuff? After last season, I am on the fence about doin that again. Although, there may be some things I can't find as plants that I want to start.

I’ll be starting some pepper seeds this weekend. They take a little longer to get going. Tomatoes I’ll start in February.
ETA: I need to sit down and start planning. Maybe I’ll get the spring thread going soon.

I'll be starting peppers and tomatoes indoors next week. What do y'all use for seed starting mix?

This is right up your alley.

I'm starting my pepper seeds tonight. Deer wrecked my fall garden pretty good, though I just had carrots and some lettuce. My fall cucumbers did well, albeit briefly.
My spring pepper plants just died with this last cold snap. They have been in the ground since March of 2024.
