If anyone has any black eyed pea experience, I can use some help. I have something that is ravaging my Southern Peas. I’ve sprayed with 7 dust but still am having no luck. Would squirrels eat the beans like this? I am at a loss.

I’ve had a bunch of ants eating some black eye peas.

I didn't plant anything this year, but a lady that works with my wife gave us a couple of tomato plants. I think she started from seeds, but not sure. One is a Cherokee Purple, and I forget what she said the other was. Both are around 2 feet tall now, leaves look great, but not seeing any signs of flowers yet. She gave them to us about a month ago when they were around 6 inches tall, if that helps anyone know when they might have been planted. What time should I start seeing flowers? I'm worried that by the time they start flowering it will be too hot. Seems like I was already harvesting tomatoes in late May or early June when I planted them in the past. I always started from seeds inside, and then moved to pots or planted them in the ground once they were about a foot tall.

whatever keeps eating my cherry tomatoes.
If they just have small round spots eaten on the tomatoes it's probably slugs or snails which eat at night.
Put some sluggo around the base of the plants.

Had a bacon/tomato sammich for lunch with an Ananas Noir tomato. I'm gonna miss these in a couple of weeks.
Turned 6 lbs of tomatos into 3 pints of chutney and jam. Great on crackers

Nothing to add as i pull up spring stuff and make up for not weeding in 3 weeks except: it’s hot.

We didn’t have much in our garden (a few tomato plants) but I’m afraid a storm that came through this afternoon may have broken them all.
Pretty violent storm. Lots of trees down all over Memphis. We are without electricity and will likely be for a few days.

My black eye peas are getting crushed by ants. Fortunately, I already got most of what I need from them.

I finalized my fall garden plans. I will be planting on either July 15 or 16 (weather dependent). I will be renting a tiller and tilling a 16 sf by 10 sf (160 sf) rectangle. Here are my planting plans:
- 20 sf devoted to 5 butternut squash plants;
- 20 sf devoted to 80 silver king sweet corn plants;
- 16 sf devoted to 144 purple top turnip plants;
- 10 sf devoted to 30 green salad bowl lettuce plants;
- 10 sf devoted to 10 lacinto kale plants; and
- 20 sf devoted to 160 phenomenal cowpea (black eye pea) plants.
There will be a 2 sf buffer zone/walking space between the squash and peas and 1 sf between all other plants. This will make it easier to weed.
Any thoughts or comments will be much appreciated!

I am giving up on trying to grow sweet corn in the garden. Between growing midget ears, ants, and worms, its not worth the space.

It's going to be my first time growing turnips and corn. I've never grown butternut squash either, but I've grown a lot of regular ol' yellow squash in the past.

I would not plant lettuce in July.

I have never had luck with lettuce or such in July.

I'm planting from seed and using the square foot gardening method.

Plant lettuce in September. August will fry it.

My long beans are starting to look rough. Replacing them with Tigger and Kajari melons this weekend.
Harvest the first Armenian Yard Long cuke this morning. I think this is my new favorite. It's very firm and the skin is so thin it's like it isn't there. It also seems to be standing up to the heat better than Beit Alphas and Straight 8s.
I don't remember who was saying they don't like Brad's Atomic Grape but mine have been producing well. I think the first I tried weren't completely ripe, they were meh. I let some get really really soft and they're great. Currently picking 10-15 lbs of tomatoes every other day. The Orange Peach are my heaviest producers.
I have a Black Krim that was started indoors after the freeze. It was about 5' tall but not setting any fruit. I cut it to about 6", pretty much left a stump. It's been two weeks and the new shoots are 6 or 7" tall. I'm going to try this with a few of others and see if they grow and produce again in the fall. I don't really want to leave them without pruning because they are a mess after the last couple of storms.
