I can’t really see what you’re seeing. They look pretty good to me. There may be a nutrient uptake issue. What I would do is top off the pot with a little more soil. And then I’d give them a good peroxide watering (1/2 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a gallon of water). This will provide oxygen to the roots and should help with nutrient uptake. And will also battle any soil borne diseases if present.

ETA: weather permitting you could probably start bringing them outside for the hardening off process. But we are supposed to get cold this weekend over here.

Will do thanks.

What outdoor temps are acceptable for setting outside?

I’d say if the daytime temps are above 60 it would be a good idea. But bring them in at night if temps drop below 50. They’d be fine with temps in the 40’s, but it would slow their growth.

Any ideas what’s going on with my tomatoes?

How close to the equator do you live that you have seedlings that big and ready to go at the beginning of February?

They aren’t that big. My average last frost date is March 10th. I usually plant out mid March and mine are about that size, maybe a little smaller. But I should have some nice sized transplants by then. I prefer to get a good head start with tomatoes cause come May the heat, humidity, and bugs start to attack them.

I can't tell if he's making fun of the size of my images since I didn't reduce them

Got some Swiss chard and kale seeds in my raised bed. They've only been in there for a few days. Temperatures on Sunday morning are supposed to dip into the high 30s. Should I cover the bed with a tarp and tie it off tight just in case?

How many did you plant? I had 7 plants on the side of my house that just died in the last freeze. I had as much chard as I cared to eat and gave a lot away as well. They're pretty cool plants.

I'm going to cover my carrot, green onion, lettuce, and arugula seedlings. All those plants (and your chard and kale) are pretty hardy if mature but I don't want to lose my seedlings. Forecast low Sunday morning is 31.

8 plants.

I’ll probably cover them I guess. Don’t want to lose a week of progress but I could just replant. If they die.

Checked on my seedlings this afternoon and it was 120 in my little greenhouse, hoping they bounce back.

New hourly forecast doesn't has it getting below 40 degrees for only 1 hour so I am going to let it ride.

At worst, I can replant and only lose a week or so.

I can confirm I have one little kale sprout. Now I think I have to cover the bed. Great.

It got nice and warm in the garage this past week with the warmer weather we had and my seedlings blew up!

As soon as the weather warms up enough outside, it’ll be time to start bringing these out. Also I guess it’s about time to top some of the peppers.

What does this mean?

Yours are about double the size of mine.

It just means that you prune off the very top of the plant. Doing so encourages them to grow more bushy. It’ll cause the plant to put energy into side branches. It could potentially lead to more fruit production that way.

It’s only recommended for small pepper varieties like jalapeños, cayenne, shishito, etc. Larger peppers it’s not recommended cause you’ll want to keep a larger main stem to support the larger fruit. For instance, I won’t be topping the California Wonder peppers. I’m not sure if I should top the Jimmy Nardelo’s. I’m hoping bluemoons will read this and chime in.

Thanks,

I'll try it out on my shishitos. I have some big Jim and nardellos that I'll leave be.

when? lol. im itching to plant. even though mine arent anywhere near your size yet as i restarted like 2 weeks ago. I am impressed how quick mine sprouted and having my lights so close and one most of the time, they are surprisingly growing fast.

I haven’t done it yet. But usually when they’re about 5”-6” tall. Most of those are pretty close, if not already that tall. I’ll be doing it soon.
