I want to seed spinach and onions and more carrots, but I think I'll wait until after this week since it'll be in the upper 80s. These temperature swings are starting to get annoying. I get we're normally up and down, but I've had enough of the record highs then record low then record highs again.

My spinach didn’t come in well. But what did looks great. Turns out I’m a pretty fair carrot grower. My broccoli and cabbage look great too in spite of whatever is eating on my broccoli leaves

I still haven’t planted my carrot seeds. I guess I’ll do that tomorrow. Better late than never. I got my bare root strawberries planted last weekend and they’re all coming to life.

So please tell me what happens with the strawberry plants over the winter. Does the foliage die back?

Not at all. They’re very cold hardy. I mulch them very well with pine straw and have never had any problems. If we get some low teens I’ll completely cover them with pine straw until it warms up.

Spring time though about mid summer. And if we don’t have any extreme heat and drought and can get them to survive the summer, they’ll make again in the fall. This is for short-day varieties that typically do better in Louisiana.

Bare root strawberries went in yesterday morning. This evening, they are already peeking up and getting color.

Check the underside of the leaves and you'll probably find the culprit. You probably have cabbage webworms eating the leaves. They attack cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Swiss chard, Kale------hell, just about anything that is in the cabbage family.

I have absolutely searched and searched and cant find anything. What ever it is loves the taste of Sevin dust as well.

Sounds like the stuff "B-rated horror movies" are made of.

I found the culprit, it is a tiny, tiny little green worm. They lay next to the stems down at the base of the leaves for most of the day it seems. I caught them out on the leaves yesterday, I killed about 12 of them. Not real sure what kind of critter they are, but they are tiny. About 1/4 inch long and about as big around as a pencil lead.

Pumpkin pie time! Gotta refresh my memory before Thanksgiving. These are about to go in the oven. Gonna get my filling done and start prepping the pie crust. I’ll let y’all know how they come out.

Well, I used 4 of my sugar pie pumpkins and got 2 pies. With the pumpkins I have remaining I could probably make 30 more pies!

Tasted great! I need to work on my pie crust, but it wasn’t too bad.

Lots of rain in the forecast today and tomorrow! Boy do we need it. The strawberries will surely benefit from it!
