Can I mix calcium nitrate and tomato plant food together in a watering can or will that cause any issues?

How much nitrogen is in the tomato plant food? Calcium nitrate is what, 15-0-0? That’s plenty enough nitrogen by itself. Wouldn’t want to give them too much and burn them.
Starting to pick more and more strawberries. They’re a little small right now, but some bigger ones are starting to grow.

Harvested the first lime off of my Persian lime tree. And it tastes exactly like a lime should taste.

And it’s that time of year. Bullfrog mating season. They always seem to make their way into my yard from the pond this time of year. I threw him back in the pond to go make the secks.

Pillage, what brand of watering system is that you use? I have never been able to get the hose to black plastic, pressure regulator, backflow preventer, and the T's leaking like a sieve...Any suggestions?

Usually have a few bullfrogs hopping around my back yard this time of year but none yet.
I also picked a big handful of strawberries this afternoon which was surprising, because just this past Sunday they didn’t look close to ready. They blew up in two days. My son gobbled them up. Satisfying moment for sure.
I didn’t think my blackberries would make much this year because Ida wrecked them, but they are making quite a bit. Canes don’t look as vibrant as last year but they are still producing. The wild blackberries that always grew on the other side of the irrigation ditch behind my property finally jumped the ditch and are full of berries on my side. Looking forward to those.
My blackberry wine came out delicious. Had to backsweeten it because I made it a little too dry, but it’s ready to bottle and I couldn’t be happier for my first time. Hopefully I’ll make enough berries for another gallon this year.
My only concern is one of my muscadines didn’t wake up yet. It’s been cooler than normal this late into the spring so hopefully it’s that. Vine is still alive, so we’ll see.
Potato plants are huge and about to flower. Beans and corn are popping up between them. Squash is germinating. Just waiting on my sweet potato slips to come in. I’ll post some pictures when I get a chance.

Mister Landscaper. I bought a kit to start and have been adding on to it as needed. They sell it all at Lowes.

When I was a kid there was a man that lived not far from me that made blackberry wine. When I was in high school his son, myself, and some other friends were over there and he let us have some. It tasted like koolaid, but I got so tore up I went blind after a couple of glasses.

Everything is doing well for me. I’ll pick a zephyr squash this weekend and that will be my first vegetable for the year. Tomatoes are looking really good and I haven’t had to treat for any fungus or pests yet, which is great. We’ve got a good bit of rain this week though so I will probably start a weekly hydrogen peroxide spraying for the tomatoes just to keep them clean. It’s so much easier when they’re still small.
My peppers and cucumbers haven’t really “taken off,” but a week of sun and 80+ degrees should get them going quickly. Most all of my plants except cucumbers are setting fruit, so I will probably side dress with tomato tone and bone meal before the next heavy rain….maybe Friday.

Yeahhh...I'm going to need to hear your method of doing this

M bushes is absolutely loaded down with green berries right now and more flowers are popping up daily. My sons are more than capable of eating them all but I wouldn't mind trying to make some homemade wine.
I'm going to have to hit my tomatoes and peppers with some nitrogen this weekend. They haven't moved at all in a week or 2. Very healthy looking, just no growth. I've been picking flowers off the tomato to try and save energy for plant growth.
Yard long beans, bush beans, cucumbers, and okra have all sprouted after laying seed down last weekend. My garlic is still going strong.
The srawberry and blue berries are enjoying the move to bigger pots. A lot of growth and had the first few strawberries last weekend. Apple trees are loaded with flowers as well. My fig tree still has leafed out yet though which has me worried.
If I was home at all during daylight hours I'd snap some pics. Maybe this Sunday or next weekend I'll be able to do that.

I was supposed to rack and bottle it around the time Ida came through, so it stayed in my pantry for WAY longer than I planned. I wrote it all down so I'd know my steps and my correction points. See below:
quote:
5/25/2021 at 1900
1. 5 pounds berries
2. 16.5 cups water
3. 2 pounds 12 oz sugar ( 2 pounds white sugar, 12 oz raw cane sugar) - increase to 3 lbs or 3.25 lbs next year - take SG readings to get sugar right.
5/25/2021 at 2300
1. Added yeast nutrient, pectic enzyme, and yeast at 95 degrees. Concerned temp too high.
2. Let rest with lid resting on top overnight.
5/26/2021 at 0645
1. Woke up to vigorous bubbling. Yeast must have survived.
2. Added another dash of enzyme and yeast and stirred.
3. Sealed lid / air lock.
5/27/2021 - 6/1/2021
1. Stirred each night between 2100-2200
2. Vigorous bubbling when stirred.
3. Wine turning lighter reddish-pink color.
4. Strong, consistent bubbling in airlock first 5 days. Bubbling slowed on day 6, and slowed significantly on day 7.
6/2/2021 - day 8
1. No more bubbling.
2. Small amount of must floating. Most settled on bottom. Wine is a lighter red color.
3. Washed carboy with dish soap then sterilized by pouring in boiling water and swishing around. Sterilized other equipment in boiling water also.
4. Skimmed floating must off with strainer spoon prior to racking.
5. Racked into carboy using 1 cup measuring cup, silicone funnel, and brew bag as filter.
6. Sealed with airlock and placed at bottom of pantry.
7. No SG readings taken throughout entire process.
6/3/2021 - day 9
1. Small amount of bubbles on top of wine but not moving airlock.
2. Lees settling on bottom and wine darkening to a deeper red. Clearing up a bit also.
6/6/2021 - day 12
1. Added 0.75 tsp of tannin. - decrease to .5tsp next year
8/29/2021 - HURRICANE IDA
3/25/2022 - first and only rack into second car boy to prep for bottling.
1. Wine is DRY, but good.
2. Will backsweeten when sorbate comes in
4/3/2022 - pre-bottle
1. Added 1/2 of a campden tablet and 1/2 teaspoon of potassium sorbate.
2. Added 1/2 cup of raw cane sugar simple syrup with one drop of honey.
3. Swirled with airlock on to mix.
4. Bottle on 4/15.

This is a link to the yeast I used.
I realized I didn't put that or the amount of nutrient and pectic enzyme that I put during primary. I'll take a look when I get home and add those.
ETA: Here's a list of everything I bought...
2 Gallon fermenting bucket
1 Gallon carboy -- x2
Brewer's bag
Yeast
Yeast nutrient
Pectic enzyme
Hydrometer - purchased late in the process for next time.
Campden tablets
Potassium sorbate
Auto-siphon

I've had an apple wine recipe saved for when my trees start producing in big enough quantities. This recipe with the blackberries should hold me over until then.

Apple wine. Now that sounds interesting.

I haven’t tried it yet but the comments from the people that followed his recipe sounds promising. I want to say later in the thread a couple posted different variations that they tried.

For any of you interested in making fruit wine, look up Jack Keller wine recipes. He had a pretty big following when the internet really got going in the early 2000’s with lots of recipes.

I have a recipe for honey mead somewhere in this house that I printed up. The bees make more honey than we can ever eat and I’m not all that interested in selling it. But we like to drink.
I bookmarked that shopping list because I’m pretty sure I’d need most, if not all, of that same stuff.

Pillage,
We make many gallons of mead. I have about 50 gallons aging in carboys. It's fun stuff. My personal favorite is a cyser(apple and honey). Depending on what type of mead you are wanting to make, I can point you in the direction of the yeasts that we have had the most success with.
71B is a great mead yeast. Especially if you are going to use any fruit.
We ferment in a 7cf deep freeze set at 60 degrees with a temp controller.
