I grabbed a few more pics for y’all. This area does hold water longer than the rest of the yard, it’s at the bottom of a slope off the driveway. I already had to nuke a stand right off the back of the house that died and got full of weeds in June drought, was nothing but a river silt base on a slope with high traffic from kids and power wheels ! So planning to till and amend it with some more organic material before re sodding. I wish I would have waited and just sodded the whole back yard instead of plugging, but at the time I was already 50 pallets deep (1 acre yard).

Obviously the wild Bermuda and VBW are giving me a run for my money also. But trying to stay consistent and mow high/ spray. If a patch is too bad, I’ll glyophosphate and fill it in.

After the Celsius turns vbw purple, is it a good idea to pull it up so as not to spread the seeds?

Craw, do you think it’s southern watergrass? Looks like it to me.

It could very well be - I have a hard time wrapping my head around a true aquatic weed growing in a lawn, but it happens with alligator weed from time to time, and I recall sometime within the past year another poster having a serious issue with southern water weed in his lawn - ID verified of the weed by Dr. Strahan with the LSU AgCenter.

DickTater, I’d recommend you send your photos to Dr. Ron Strahan, Turf and Weed Extension Specialist and Professor, LSU AgCenter, rstrahan@agcenter.LSU.edu, and ask if he can ID the weed from your photos.

Thanks for the input on the back yard, now front yard is having a few spots yellowing, plenty of rain, south east BR, recently put out out insecticide, have put down the lesco fert from lowes, and yesterday hit the spots in question with some bio advanced fungicide, I’m thinking I’ve covered my basis, unless I need a different fungicide with different MOA.

If you've been getting lots of rain every day then it could be a root rot fungus or it might just be stress. The grass might not be able to exchange oxygen at root level because it is sitting in a pool of water.

The active ingredient in Bio Advanced is propiconazle which is a good general fungicide.

Sounds like you have you bases covered. Although i’d apply the fungicide to the entire lawn rather than just the trouble spots - fungal/diseases issues can spread throughout the lawn. As ronk stated, constant rain, heat, and high humidity can play havoc on lawns under the best of circumstances.

With all of this rain I had an outbreak of Dove Weed. Interesting as it’s a strip across the yard east-to-west. Aligns with my most common mowing pattern so note to self: bag when it’s going to be warm and wet for a few days. I don’t think it’s an area with drainage issues.

Anywho, hit the dove weed with a dose of Tenacity about 10 days ago. I mixed too much and left about a gallon in the sprayer for 5 days. I decided to spray it out over the same area even though the label says to use within a day. This morning the Doveweed is taking a beating and the centipede is looking strong.

Looks like I have three or four vanilla snow cones in my yard, lol.

I have a lot of darker patches of green in my yard (amongst a bunch of other things wrong). What is this and how should I kill? Centipede grass.

Have you fertilized your lawn this year? It looks like it could have used some. The dark patches are lespedeza. Celsius will take care of it.

I did not fertizilize. I recently got the care scheduled for centipede for my zone and plan to start following it.

I'm about to take down a decent size River Birch in my front yard, would now be the best time to cut, stump grind, and pull mulch and add dirt, in hopes to have grass in that spot for next spring? Or should I plan on a year or2 of no grass?

Laid 20 pallets Centipede June 2021.
Pic is 9/14/22.
The rougher area is bottome of slope. A year ago brown patch there. This year has been nice so far.

Too late to seed Bermuda in south Louisiana? Yay or nay? Debating on whether or not I need to hold off until spring to do a lot leveling project.

Is there a Scott’s pre emergent product for centipede?

You can but it’s getting late. Sod is fine but usually you want seed to develop a little better root system heading into the winter.

Lawn help please. St Aug, New Orleans area.

First issue: A week or two ago I noticed web worm moths. Hit the yard with max dilution of Talstar P (1oz/gallon). Now I have a noticeable brown batch in the backyard. Have noticed way way fewer moths. Is it okay to put down more Talstar? Instruction booklet said to wait a month or something when using max dilution. Also worried now that we haven’t been getting rain too much Talstar could hurt the lawn.

Second issue: what is the best way to re-grow dead spots of St Aug? I suspect it’s from my dog. A few spots, I’ve pulled up the dead grass and roots and it’s just bare dirt but new grass isn’t taking over the bare spots. Been like that for months.

Post pictures. The brown patch might be large patch fungus.

Talstar isn’t going to hurt your lawn though.

Will try to get some when I get home this evening. I assumed it was moths because I had a ton of them in the grass and the grass wasn’t growing evenly then started browning a bit.

Re: fungus, about two months ago I treated with propiconazole. Then 3 or 4 weeks after I put down Scott’s DiseaseEX.
