My tomatoes are doing the same. Plants look great. Very tall. Very few fruit, and the few fruit I do have are small. Oddly enough, this dwarf variety I planted is doing the best.

Lots of my lettuce bolted with the sun/heat, so I replanted.

Just planted a bunch of carrots today.

This is why I always wait until it looks like the real heat is done for the year before putting in lettuce seed. Too early and it bolts or just wilts as the seedlings try to grow even with frequent watering.

I planted my leaf lettuce seeds 2 days ago along with Kale, Swiss Chard, Beets, onion sets and some garlic. I picked up some plants already started in 6 packs from the nursery and got collards, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussel sprouts. I'll put them in tomorrow if it doesn't rain too hard today and turn my garden into a muddy mess.

Is anyone planting strawberries? I’m thinking of planting a bunch in containers this year on the deck. LSU Ag Center says now is the time to plant them but it looks like no one has them for sale around here. If you are planting them, where are you getting your plants from?

I would call a couple farms in ponchatoula and ask them where they get their plants.

A few of mine bolted also. Pulled and re-planted. I did get to eat a few before they bolted, though.

I planted more carrots today. I had so many seeds left. I cleaned out my herb box and filled it with carrot seeds.

Ok, I ordered 100 Festival strawberry plants. 50 from Bob Wells Nursery and 50 from Burgess. The Festival cultivar seems to be the most popular for our area. I'm going to build several tiered towers for them. We will see how it goes.

I saw someone posted about onions. I now grow all my onions from seed, but when I was buying starts i would order from Dixondale. The Red Creole, Texas 1015 and the Candy all do fantastic. Plant the starts about an inch deep and fertilize with bone meal. Last year I picked over 500. The LSU website says plant in January but I start them as early as possible. Ill be getting them in the ground around 11/15.

I have my onion seeds in the beds and are getting some nice shoots coming up now. How about garlic and shallots? Those I have from cloves.

Anyone know what’s going on with my blue berry Bush? The white spots cover leaves and limbs. I figured it was egg sacs of some kind and have been hitting it with neem oil for the last 2-3 weeks but hasn’t had any visible effects.

Where they started in the bush, it’s now dead after turning from green to a light pink color.

It could be powdery mildew. Have you tried a fungicide?

No but I have some and will give it a try. There shouldn’t be any restrictions following up neem oil a day later with fungicide huh?

I just bought some from Cleggs on Siegen late last week and will plant them today. They are bare root and come in a bundle of 25 (if I recall correctly). The variety was Strawberry Festival. They are kept in a refrigerator so ask for them at the checkout counter and they’ll send an employee to get them out the frig.

You were getting full size onions from bulbs? I've only had luck starting from seed.

Is anyone's okra going nuts right now? I sowed it back in April and its really just now started going crazy in the past two weeks, when I was expecting it back in July.

So I got home and the little white nodules pluck off easily and when I squeeze it, it’s gooey. Gotta be an egg sac right?

Edit:

My okra went nuts about 2 weeks ago but has slowed down with the 2 recent cold fronts.

I planted late and it didn't produce anything until August, then it became a tree and was producing so fast that I couldn't keep up with it. I cut it down and had to use a hacksaw.
