What if two different posters post from the same IP address?

Both me and a co-worker were banned a few years ago for posting from the same IP address (the office) but different computers and we each got a message saying to stick to one username. Neither of us had used an alter then.
How do admins confirm that someone is an alter before banning them? I had to send multiple messages explaining that myself and my coworker were not the same poster and I eventually was allowed to post again. My guess is that I was either found to be telling the truth or my undue prison sentence was complete. Surely there are many others who work or reside in the same apartment/home/office and post here using the same IP address.

Coming from a poster that has admittedly created more than a dozen alters.
There are many ways for us to determine.

Fred, you know I have never denied using alters in the past (although the number is nowhere near a dozen). You’re an admin and you know full well I haven’t logged into any of them in a very long time. I was wondering this because of the situation I explained - what was it that made y’all think my coworker and I were the same person. We both got banned and accused of being the same person. If it’s more than IP address, I’m either technologically ignorant or there’s some metric that needs to be tweaked because the only thing he and I shared was an IP address.

They have got to tweak their alter-determining parameters then. My wife has an account that she refuses to use and thankfully she doesn’t because if she did then I guess we would both be banned for suspicion of being the same person since she’d post from the same IP address.

Geo-locators that are dropped onto your computer via bots that can tell where your devices are up to about 2'.
So, unless you are your co-worker are not practicing safe social distancing, then we can easily pick you out from anyone else.
