The reason I want a religion board is that I want to discuss certain things like the Patristics, church architecture, the Liturgy, episcopal appointments, etc. without having every thread bombarded with awful jokes or PEDOPHILIAOMG!!!!! thrown in everywhere. Some of this was able to be done on the poliboard, but others don't fit on there. And I don't want just Catholic answers, so another site wouldn't necessarily work.
the problem is that this stuff would still happen on this new board, hopefully less.

I'd like a religion/ philosophy board as long as trolling is policed. Certain posters (both atheist and christian) get their jollies off of trolling one another and derailing every legitimate discussion that has ever been had on the Poliboard. I'd say the rules are get caught intentionally flaming three times and you get a week-long ban from that rant. Any offenses after that is a permaban from the board.

After being surprised to see a couple of religiously themed threads just pop up on the OT, I checked in to see if a decision has been made... guess not. And I think one of the threads I saw got whacked.
My own thoughts: Part of me would like to see a new board, which is more thoughtfully focused on religion, philosophy and science. It would definitely appeal to me and I would check it frequently. I don't post all that much, but probably at least a third of what I've posted in outside The Rant would have been at home on the proposed new board. It would also probably be good for the OT, as some of my more thoughtful posts there tend to make people's eyes glaze over and threads die.
If the title of the board is still being mulled over, I'd suggest "The Mental Sphere"; and maybe a subtitle mentioning discussion of religion, philosophy, technology, science, ideas, etc. I think that title would automatically add an academic appeal that would hint at the intended tone of the content posted inside. While some threads will undoubtedly become heated arguments no matter what, if you just call it a religion board, I think it will automatically be seen as a battleground by those entering, as opposed to a forum to discuss ideas.

Take off the blinders.
Blue Velvet is a frigging troll.
Honestly, I see absolutely no point in having a Religion Board if that dude is allowed to post in it.
He'll just keep on derailing threads.
You can bitch all you want about L.A.'s admin skills but he hasn't thrown down the ban hammer on you or your buddy, now has he?
I'm sure he'll be over here shortly...

I've never seen Blue Velvet troll. Let me guess, you disagree with him so that means he's "trolling", according to you. Thanks for giving more evidence to my original point.

BV enters every thread that mentions the Catholic Church and posts about the sex scandals. Every single thread. That isn't trolling?

Pardon me if I happen to agree with an admin over a person said admin called out as a troll.
Some people are capable of disagreeing without being disagreeable.
Blue Velvet ain't one of those people.
But back to my point... I don't see any point of having a Religion and Philosophy Board. The admins aren't going to enforce the existing rules so why bother.
When's the last time anyone got the banhammer on the Poli Board?
Posted on 5/10/12 at 5:03 pm to TN Bhoy
1. Link? 2. I guess it's pointing out a fact. 3. It's kinda minor compared to all the other awful things the Catholic Church does, so at least he's not pointing that stuff out.

Well, it's high past time somebody got the banhammer.
They can crucify me if they like.
I'm the furthest thing from a spotless lamb but they'd be doing me a huge favor.

Here's one. You can also check out the thread on the Jews.

I can point out strawberries are red in every thread on the Poli-board. Should I do it?

Me. I got banned for asking L.A. why some threads on the board were moved while others were not. I wasn't even given a warning.

I read that thread last night and I just read the one on Jews. If you think that's trolling, then I don't know what to tell you.

Should I do it?

How? The pope is trying to speak on behalf of god and BV is pointing out how ridiculous it is to do that. Again, you disagreeing with it does not make it trolling.
