What was the problem with that thread?

You should probably go look at the hundreds of threads made by Christians calling out atheists attempting to incite flaming.

you are joking right? Are you talking about on this site (specifically POLI-BOARD)? Actually I have seen that(not hundreds of threads but plenty) from certain "atheists" here bashing believers and have mentioned it in the past. I have not seen atheist bashing from believers on or anywhere near the level I described from certain "atheists" above towards believers in the past. Oh the Irony.

ETA: i clarified with POLI-BOARD. That is what I meant by this site as that is the one with all the religious discussion(or was anyway) most of us have taken part in here.

Basically, people on the OT were sick of religious threads polluting their den of iniquity and that thread was the straw that broke the camel's back.

To be honest, I've always thought the OT was a terrible place for any discussion about religion. The OT is a den of iniquity and it should remain so. Religious threads belong on the OT about as much as guys with crosses with electronic reader boards belong on Bourbon Street. I thought the admins' decision to relegate religious threads to the OT was laughable, at best.

No. I am merely proposing moving unserious or superficial-news-of-the-day religious threads to the OT. The religious threads that genuinely involve current events in politics would go to the PT. The serious discussions that go beyond ordinary political squabbles would go to the new Philosophy, Spirituality, & Science board.

Basically, I'm proposing a 3-way partition of where to send threads that have subjects pertaining to religion.

Also, I actually never saw this infamous "Was Jesus Gay Thread?" thread, so I can't comment if the person who created it was serious or not. Just from the title alone, I can't say for the sure that the thread wasn't legit.

I posted the OP for that thread but only because I wanted to beat Toddy to the punch (he posted about it but for some reason didn't start a thread).

It was a serious article in the UK's Guardian:
LINK

My OP was just the link and a few quotes from the article. I offered no commentary about the article's content. Well, I did give Toddy the finger for beating him to the punch in starting a thread but otherwise I offered no commentary.

Too bad religion is banned from the OT right now because we can't discuss the response the article generated on the Guardian's site:
Can liberal Christians please stop banging on about gayness?

He said "banging on"...

But, back to your point, I was seriously looking for feedback. I didn't see what specifically got the thread yanked but if it's in a major newspaper like the Guardian I think it rates as a serious topic of conversation. Clearly a newsworthy current event and if people are that bothered by the mere existence of such threads then probably shouldn't read them.

Judging from the link, that looks to me like something that would remain on the new board, because it's a serious discussion.

The story about the priest in Northern Ireland who accidentally had gay porn pop up in his presentation would be something that I hope would get removed to the OT ... that is unless the original poster in such a thread was building up a case for a bigger point.

But they cause an uproar there, apparently.

You can't really separate politics from religion. Religion was invented because religion made it easy for insane people to control other insane people thousands of years ago. That was the origin of the state.

It originated from an article in the Guardian newspaper.

You can't totally separate politics from religion, which is why I don't want a board specifically devoted to religion that's going to try to cover all threads with any link to a religious topic.

On the other hand, you can definitely have religious discussions that have little to do with current political issues, and moreover, there is clearly a big demand for these types of threads, as they've been popping up for years now on the PT board, to the chagrin of many PT contributors who are uninterested in them.

Before the religious moratorium, you would find anti atheist threads on the OT just about every other day
