Another sample. Quick assessment of the last 10 pages on the OT (as of 4:52 PM CT).
During this time period, the amount of threads created or discussed on topics involving science/technology totaled 24. The amount of threads created or discussed on health/fitness totaled 14. And, the amount of threads created or discussed involving music totaled 9.
Science and Technology (24 threads)

It seems most that responded to you really didn't understand that you were proposing a science and technology board (even though, as you mentioned, science governs technology).
Technicalities aside, the situation is almost paradoxical. No one wants to discuss the possibility of introducing such a board, and chortle at the idea, yet the tech posts flood the OT on a daily basis...

I think you are mistaken as to why we need a music and fitness and ______ board. The O-T Lounge stands for Only-Technology Lounge. We need the other boards in order to get the random crap off of the Tech board. People just post music stuff on the Tech Board because the Tech board is the most popular.
ETA: but, once a new board is created, those threads are moved to the new board. Example, one can routinely see posters say "I posted this here because ____ board isn't as active..." but the thread gets moved anyways. Like someone starting a movie thread on the Tech board; it will get moved.

More data. Temporal frame for this set is today, specifically, threads from 3/15/12 (12:00 AM) to 3/15/12 (6:00 PM).
So, another day...same results. Significantly more threads on science/technology topics than music, health, or fitness. For today, there were 18 threads created or discussed involving science/technology, 13 threads created or discussed involving health/fitness, and 7 threads created or discussed involving music.
I also browsed the first 3 pages of the Movie/TV board, and found another 3 tech related topics lingering about, but didn't include them in the totals, since the presented aggregates reflect threads from the OT only.

This is really impressive. It is interesting the demand for music + health/fitness = science/tech board.
Personally, I would call it the Tech Board because that is what the vast majority of questions deal with. I would leave the science aspect back on the OT because an interesting fact about the universe is far different than help on your IPhone IMO.
Either way, I would approve the shite out of this because of the impressive empirical data you put forward if I had any power.

Perhaps the metaphysical might be included in this board too? And what about philosophy? It too is a type of science. Perhaps this could be a board for more...enlightened discussions than whether or not you would hit a given female.

FWIW, I suspect we would get a higher rate of quality posting on a sci/tech board than other boards
