Judging by some of the replies... I don't see a lot of posters that I'd assume are 50 or older, LOL.
I'm over 50.
I was training for a marathon earlier this year, and I think it cost me the ability to run a quicker 5k or mile. Or maybe I am just getting older.
Just a couple of years ago, I could run about a 23+ minute 5k, and I ran a half mile in about 3:20.

A few months back, I ran a 29: something 5k and thought I was going to die. I had actually been running with poor form and too slow for a few months prior. Horrible shin splints.
Decided to start running faster for shorter periods. Enjoyed that very much.
As of today, my 1 mile time is 7:48, 5k is 27:07. For 'easy runs' with no real push, just gliding through, I maintain about a 9:20 pace for 3-4 miles.
My best friend is an ultra elite 100 mile race type athlete and I always get caught up comparing myself to him...which is a huge mistake. My goal is to live healthy, his is obviously far beyond that...

Crap! I'm in Dallas though....I'll run my own 5000 and report back....haha.
16:56 can be verified by the good folks in the TD Strava group.
Can’t tell if it was a tad short or on the money. My watch says everything is short by about .02-.03 some folks in the race showed a little long.
edit: I’m 38 by the way.

I guess I can update this to 6:15 and 21:48 5k
I am going to shoot for a sub 6 mile in a couple of months.

That's a good time. Can I post my time from when I was 38? Ha!
