Was. Wanted to see my abs. Had the four pack but still couldn’t see abs around navel. But I was looking sick so said eff it and started putting on muscle. 153 currently. Haven’t eaten all clean so can clean it up substantially.

Oh yeah? Hell, I'm 5'8" 186 lbs with 10.3% bodyfat. I guess I'm overweight also.

Point I'm trying to make is, without knowing the cat's body fat percentage, you don't know if he's overweight or not. Some people have quite a bit of muscle packed on their frame and can carry the extra weight because it's lean muscle.

Yeah, but do some math. If what you say is true about yourself, you're an outlier. The vast majority of people who are 5'9" and 190 lbs are overweight.

I'm 5'10", and I've been lifting pretty heavy for many years. I weight 182 lbs, and I still need to lose some body fat.

Well, he’s pretty spot on as far as longevity. Not to get more technical about the research, and mitochondria health, dementia prevention, but just look at the 90+ year olds you know and see every day…. How many are even over 200 lbs??? Over 300? Over 400? Those all died in their 60’s and 70’s…

In all seriousness, yes, I know what you're saying and I agree. I just found it strange that the original guy I was replying to was so quick to point out the guy's overweight without knowing his body type.

I'm concerned with my body fat percentage, total body weight, and my muscle mass when I do scans. A person's body fat percentage is more of a true indication of health than anything else.

Not trying to get everything off track in this thread

To have a 20 BMI, I would have to get down to 150 lbs.

I’d be worried the first sickness would reduce me to concentration camp body comp.

I normally give folks grief about poo pooing BMI, particularly the 30 and 25 lines, but there is definitely something to individuality once you get low into the range.

My own experience, I was BMI ~22 well into my late 20s, but visually I would have appeared underweight. For me the sweet spot was right at the 25 line (technically overweight), but I still wasn't carrying much fat. It was the 15 to 18 pounds past that got me into trouble.

Now, at a BMI of 28, still not as fat as one might imagine, but "not great". My long term goal is to settle back in at about a BMI of 25.

Well me, and the medical doctor that just physically examined him.

There are always outliers, but statistically speaking he’s overweight. If this guy was an outlier, this thread wouldn’t exist.

you think a doctor is going to advise someone with 10% body fat to lose 20 lbs?

Its a little weird only because its the kind of practical advice docs should be giving but never are. He could have prescribed you a bunch of garbage or suggested TRT. That is what the lazy doc would have done

How is that strange advice? Healthy weight range for your height is like 160-170. A doctor recommending you weight loss when you are 20 lbs overweight instead of supplements marks you as strange?

Since doc appointment I am down to 182. I have only been eating 93/7 beef and frozen berry medley. I have been doing compound lifts. I was able to squat 275 for 6 and deadlift 295 for 6... but my energy is not great.

I am having to buy new pants. I am starting to see real definition in my stomach. I will likely stop dieting once I hit 175.

That’s a good bit of weight loss in 2 weeks. I would continue to eat healthy, but make sure you’re eating to satiety for a week or 2. With the drop in energy you put yourself in a spot to ditch this change in healthy habits.

Not bad lifts at all. You’re not a newbie lifter
