Dr said to take 500 IU 2x per day but the pharmacist said it doesn’t matter. I can’t find individual 500 IU vitamins, but can find 1000’s.

Thoughts?

There's actually data that occasional mega dosing is more effective; like 5k every few days.

I recommend finding a D/K2 combo.

Yes, you're off 10 fold. Should be 5000-10000 IU daily. Take it with fat. Listen to the other poster and consume VitK2 100mg daily along with the D. Or get your rear end out in the sun!

As some one who has done Rx megadoses of 50,000IU once a week, I wouldn't think twice about 1000 once a day over 500 2x/d. No way you will be able to tell a difference.

Agree with the other two - what is your doctor basing that recommendation on? Labs? If so, what is your vitamin D level? It should be at least 55....if you have a history of cancer in your family you want 65-75. I, personally, take 5000IU daily.

You are probably using ergocalciferol (D2) for the weekly doses. I think cholecalciferol (D3) taken daily works better. 1000 IU/day for supplementation is ok, but if levels are low, take 4000-5000 IU/day for the first month or so. And it’s perfectly fine to take it once a day (would not divide into twice a day dosing).

I think we read the same stuff. I agree whole heartedly. I’ve been taking 5k IU per day and am still in the middle of the conventional range on my blood tests. I am going to up it and take it with fat. Thanks.
