Heck, as long it integrates with Strava and the mapping and battery life are passable, I'd wait until later in the year when some deals pop up.

That was my original plan but my Bolt is so old i got the "sorry we nuked your computer" email from Wahoo today. I was wondering why it was dead but i guess there was an issue with an update and the ancient models. If they fix it before the new bike arrives i might just hold off but if not i might be forced to do something.

It’s hard to beat a Garmin for integration and mapping, but when I was looking Wahoo and Hammerhead had their perks, as well.

I run 30mm GP5000s on my SL7. They measure 31mm on the Rovals on that bike.

My 32mm's are still within the Rule of 105% for the Roval front wheel since they measure about 33mm and the rim profile is 35mm at widest. But I can't help but think running a 30mm that balloons to 31mm wouldn't give a little aero gain because the widest part of the rim is halfway down it so the air would flow smoother across a 31mm wide tire and on across the rim. I'll need to get the calipers out and measure the outside rim width at the bead.

Bro science incoming.

Thanks man. i'm dying for it to be here already.

Choice was between SRAM one i got, SRAM but maroon(too aggie), and a white DI2. I ended up sticking with SRAM because apparently the latest version is better. And i'm already in the eco system and have some batteries.

Now i have to figure out what to do with the old one. I gave my old ZR2000 away to someone who wanted to get into cycling. I might do the same with the SL5.

hell yea nice ride.

make the shop install some better than stock headset bearings when it gets built up. i just had to do the long overdue headset service on my SL7 and it took about 2.5 hours longer than a headset bearing install should (you have to take the entire cockpit apart and bleed the brakes). water gets in the headtube of these bikes and sits on top of the bottom bearings and the garbage stock bearings disintegrate eventually. i put the cane creek hellbender kit in it and you can see how they designed them to attempt to address this some. the bearings are not "open" on both sides

This is good info to know. I'm not having any trouble with my headset, but it has certainly been in the rain. When I get it serviced after this summer I may go ahead and have them replace the headset bearings.

well, i do rinse my bikes down after every ride because i sweat acid... if your bikes dont get wet much it's less of an issue obviously

Wrapping up a strong August with 20 days on the bike, will be 21 after tomorrow's ride.

Also recently converted my 2x GRX to a 1x with a wolf tooth chainring. Happy with the results for my riding style.

Whats everyone using for computers these days? I'll take this chance to upgrade from my old Wahoo Element bolt. I like the strava integration and would like to keep that.

Still on my v1 element bolt. It's been a great unit even though it was bricked last week from that 1024 week bug. All is well now that they shipped a firmware fix, but I did have to record directly on Strava without a head unit for 3 rides which was weird.

I got hit by it too. I might just reuse it for a bit or maybe I’ll buy something when I go get the new bike and get fit. I’m going to see what they have in stock.

This weekend the boy returned to enduro racing for the first time in nearly a year after concentrating on downhill this last season. We weren't confident that he'd still have speed after his AC separation earlier in the summer and lack of the long-stage pedaling fitnes required for enduro vs. downhill. On top of that, it was a stacked Pro class, with a lot of regional "heavy hitters" who he's struggled to beat in the past.

He dropped his chain on the first stage, costing him what bystanders said was probably 30 seconds when he had to stop and put his chain back on in a pdealing section of the stage. Not a good way to start the day, but he just pushed on and hoped to stay clean the rest of the day. When timing chips got turned in, he ended up in p2, winning four out of the seven stages, and less than 3 seconds off the winner's time. So yeah... question answered. The downhill racing all over the country during the last year paid off when he came back to enduro. Now he's torn on whether he wants to keep focusing on downhill or come back to enduro... probably just going to do a mix. Next year, he'll cat up to a full pro instead of junior in Downhill, so that competition is just going to get stiffer.

Here's the edit one of the race videographers put together for him of his race day:
